Everything You Need To Know About London’s Spice Girls Exhibition
What is the Spice Girls exhibition?
Spice Up London is the largest touring collection of Spice Girls memorabilia in the world. Put together by superfan Alan Smith-Allison, who began collecting pieces of fan memorabilia back in 2006, a staggering 7000 items will be on display throughout the exhibit. What’s more, you’ll get to see some of the fashion pieces worn by Sporty, Baby, Ginger, Posh and Scary that went on to shape some of the most iconic moments in fashion history. From Geri’s Union Jack dress to Mel C’s Kappa tracksuit bottoms, the entire collection will be on display, dating back to the very start of their careers.
Where and when is it held?
The exhibition is running from 28th July – 20th August at the Business Design Centre in Angel, north London. But those who live further north will be pleased to hear that the event will then move from London to Manchester from 24th August - 4th September and will be held in the Manchester Central venue. Rumour has it that Spice Up will travel to 6 other locations in the UK as part of the tour.
What can you expect?
The exhibit is mostly displayed in chronological order, so you can start at the very beginning and take it all in – single by single, outfit by outfit, year by year. Hundreds of outfits will be on display as well as thousands of pieces of memorabilia, from teddy bears to lampshades.
Are there any surprises?
When the Spice Girls went on to release their first blockbuster film Spice World in 1997, fans piled into cinemas across the country with their mums in tow (because let’s be honest, they were all secretly massive fans too). We laughed, we cried and we sang along to what would eventually become one of the best cult films of our childhood.
Remember the Spice Bus? Yes, that incredible Union Jack double-decker (hilariously driven by Meatloaf in the film), which was filled with colourful bean bags and furry swings, is coming to Spice Up too. Guaranteed to steal the show, you can get up close to the exact model from the film, which will be parked outside the Business Design Centre throughout the duration of the exhibit.
How much are tickets?
Tickets to Spice Up costs £10 for adults, £5 for children (aged between 12 and 16) and free for children under 12. You can book online beforehand or buy tickets on the day.
