FOOD & DRINK

Khao Bird

After a knockout residency at the Globe Tavern, Brighton’s Lucky Khao team have made their London move permanent with Khao Bird – now open inside a former adult cinema in Soho. The food leans into northern Thai flavours. Expect big, bold dishes: beef larb sharpened with Campari; prawn khanon jeen with cold fermented noodles; brisket khao soi; Burmese tea-leaf salad; Shan-style BBQ meatballs; plus, off-menu snacks like house-made beef jerky with fried lime leaves.

The Connaught

Christmas at The Connaught is pure magic. Fireplaces crackle, the scent of pine fills the air and the festive menus are as indulgent as the setting. Highlights include autumn herbs agnolotti with black truffle, roasted Norfolk turkey with all the trimmings and a decadent chocolate tartlet. Also worth a look is the 2025 Connaught Christmas tree – a 31ft Nordmann Fir designed by Swiss contemporary artist Urs Fischer – it glows with LED-lit spheres featuring AI-generated faces.

WELLNESS

Drip Sauna

If you’re in need of a reset, Drip is the winter wellness spot worth knowing. Set on Battersea’s Coaling Jetty, its three Scandinavian-style saunas overlook the Thames and the Power Station. The cabins are classic après-ski – clean lines, soft wood, big windows – and there’s room for seven (turn up at the right time and you might score one to yourself). Each has a stash of essential oils for adding a hit of eucalyptus or lavender to the coals. When you’re done sweating it out, brace for the plunge pools – set at a brisk 4°C – or cool off outside.

FAMILY

The Hunger Games

If you’re looking for a family-friendly theatre outing – that isn’t a panto – you’re in luck. Panem has come to Canary Wharf as Suzanne Collins’ dystopian phenomenon makes its world stage premiere. Adapted by acclaimed playwright Conor McPherson and directed by Matthew Dunster (2:22 A Ghost Story), The Hunger Games brings the drama, danger and high-stakes survival of Collins’ novel to a purpose-built new venue, the Troubadour Theatre. Leading the cast, Mia Carragher steps into Katniss Everdeen’s boots, joined by Euan Garrett as Peeta and Joshua Lacey as Haymitch, alongside a strong ensemble that includes Tamsin Carroll and Stavros Demetraki. With Collins herself backing the adaptation, expectations are high – and from the scale of the production, it looks set to deliver.
