DITCH THE BOOZE:

The Down Low Bar Pop-Up

If you’re looking to cut back or just want to try something a bit different, this low-alcohol bar opens tonight at Bermonds Locke. It showcases some of the best no and low alcohol brands on the market right now – try drinks by Decem, Shandy Shack, Copenhagen Sparkling Tea, Templars Choice, The Gentle Wine, Mydflower, Double Dutch and more. Drinks are served with healthy snacks from Simply Roasted, Saved Food, The Savourists and Good Things Snacks. The pop-up will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from tonight until Saturday 1st April ,when there will be a closing party with DJs and canapés. Entry costs £10 for early (5.30pm) and later (7.30pm) slots, and is redeemable at the bar on the night.

Fly Girl Collective’s 5th Birthday Ride

Fly Girl Collective is a fitness group created by and for women of colour. To celebrate its fifth birthday, the team is hosting a spinning class at Psycle’s Oxford Circus studio on Saturday 18th March at 2pm. Led by instructor and fitness coach Vinnie, expect a fast-paced and energetic afternoon set to an up-tempo playlist. After the class, ticketholders will be rewarded with a protein shake and bag of lululemon goodies. Tickets cost £10 with all proceeds going to the Black Women Project via The Leanne Pero Foundation.

Saltie Girl

Mayfair’s new seafood restaurant Saltie Girl has launched a brunch menu with a selection of seafood dishes. Available on Sundays, guests can choose from dishes like eggs benedict with lobster, scrambled eggs with caviar; breakfast ‘carbonara’ with guanciale (an Italian cured meat) and poached eggs; buttermilk waffles with eggs and syrup and fried lobster or scampi; and the ‘Mermaid’s Nest’ featuring quail eggs, crab, caviar and potato chips. You can also order the restaurant’s signature seafood towers alongside brunch cocktails like the ‘Passionfruit’ made with vodka, passionfruit and grapefruit bitters.

Sweeties Vinyl Wednesdays At The Standard

The Standard’s late-night cocktail bar Sweeties is hosting a new event on Wednesday nights. Some of London’s best DJs will take to the decks for vinyl-only sets from 6pm to 11pm. Cocktails will be discounted by a third until 9pm. On Wednesday 22nd March, Poly Ritmo will set the vibe with disco and soul tunes. We recommend the ‘Be Mine’ cocktail made with peach liqueur, bitter sugar cubes and Veuve Clicquot.

Mostly Nude at Hamiltons Gallery

Hamiltons Gallery opens its Mostly Nude exhibition today – comprising a collection of iconic images by some of photography’s most influential artists. It explores the shift in the genre and how that has been reflected in work by names like William Helburn, Sante D’Orazio and Annie Leibowitz. Expect to see famous photographs like Cindy Crawford captured by Helmut Newton in St Tropez in 1991 for American Vogue, Leibowitz’s Georgia O’Keeffe Pastels, and a series of models shot by American photographer Irving Penn.

Lampshade Painting With Tess Newall

On Friday 17th March from 10am to 3pm, Tess Newall is hosting a lampshade painting workshop at Haymarket hotel in St James’s. The Sussex-based set designer and decorative artist paints murals in private homes, and decorates furniture and lampshades. During the workshop you’ll be given a handmade card lampshade to paint and take home, drawing inspiration from the shapes, colours and patterns found in Kit Kemp’s hotel interiors. The workshop includes all materials including the choice of a large or small lampshade, a practice panel for design work, and a selection of specialist paints. Tickets cost £195pp.

VISIT THIS COOL EXHIBITION:

Thin Air at The Beams

The Beams is one of the coolest nightclubs to have opened in the last year. As well as hosting parties headed up by big-name DJs, the vast venue is also one of London’s biggest exhibitions spaces. On Friday 17th March, it will open the doors to ‘Thin Air’, an immersive exhibition featuring work by seven contemporary artists who use light, sound and media to explore the boundary between art and technology. Installations include a large-scale piece by Robert Henke, where rays of ultraviolet-light paint are reflected onto temporary landscapes, and a laser beam projection by Matthew Schreiber. Some of the exhibits make use of the venue’s killer sound system for a truly immersive experience. Tickets cost £20.

WATCH A NEW FILM:

BFI Flare 2023

The BFI has kicked off its annual Flare film festival celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ creatives. Until Sunday 26th March, you can book a range of events and talks, and watch contemporary films and documentaries from around the world. Highlights include screenings of All The Beauty And The Bloodshed which explores the career of activist Nan Goldin and the fall of the Sackler family; Blue Jean about closeted PE teacher Jean who leads a double life; and How to Tell a Secret which is about the stigma surrounding HIV. For the first time, there’s also a free exhibition (16th-19th March) featuring a selection of immersive projects from LGBTQ+ artists.

Legare

If you’re looking for a date night spot, put Legare at the top of your list. During a recent visit, we were seriously impressed with the quality of the food and excellent service. The Tower Bridge restaurant from Jay Patel (The Lockhart, Barrafina, Koya) and head chef Matt Beardmore (Trullo) is now open on Sundays. With a focus on seasonal ingredients and simple but delicious food, the menu changes regularly so there’s always something exciting to try. Start the meal with focaccia and olives before moving onto starters like burrata with smoked aubergine or squid and puntarelle salad. Current mains include spaghetti with chilli and clams, or pappardelle with pig cheek and trotter ragù. Be sure to finish with the signature cannoli.

SUPPORT A GOOD CAUSE:

Shelter Pop-Up

Shelter is hosting a shopping event on Saturday 18th March at its Coal Drops Yard store to raise

funds for the charity, which helps those experiencing homelessness in the UK. To coincide with

World Recycling Day, you can donate unwanted items and shop a mixture of designer, vintage and

high-street fashion. Expect to find brands like Alexander McQueen, adidas and Topshop. Shoppers

will also be encouraged to sign Shelter’s pledge to donate unwanted clothes and accessories, and

donate to the charity to support its frontline services.
