The Mutton, Hampshire
The Mutton is a family-run pub in the small village of Hartley Wintney in north Hampshire. Opening its doors today, the pub is set in a restored 19th-century building near the village’s nature reserve. There’s an impressive line-up of chefs and consultants who have worked the project, including Nigel Sutcliffe and James McLean, whose recent projects include The Oarsman in Marlow and The Crown at Bray; while Jojo Barr is behind the interiors. Diners can tuck into pub classics made with local produce like mutton crumpets with pickled red cabbage; and torched mackerel pakoras; and main courses of venison with salt-baked celeriac; and mushroom risotto with sweetcorn, blue cheese and crispy kale. There’s also a Sunday lunch menu, and a regularly changing dessert menu – currently, there’s dark chocolate crèmeaux or upside-down plum cake on offer.

Louise Bourgeois at Hauser & Wirth Somerset
Hauser & Wirth’s Somerset gallery is worth a visit this autumn if you’re in the West Country. As well as exhibitions by Fabian Peake and Roni Horn, the standout show this season is a solo exhibition by Louise Bourgeois, widely regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century. Exhibited publicly for the first time, it includes a collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings from Bourgeois’ own private collection. Each piece is on loan from The Metropolitan Museum of Art until January 2023 – look out for the colourful watercolour paintings created towards the end of Bourgeois’ 70-year career.

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh
Virgin Hotels has opened its first outpost outside of the US – in Edinburgh. In a historic building in the Scottish capital’s Old Town, the hotel has 222 chambers and grand chamber suites with views over Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. All rooms are spacious with a lounge area complete with a Smeg mini fridge stocked with local products, a separate dressing area with a vanity and make-up desk, and an ensuite with Arran of Scotland toiletries. After a day of sightseeing, guests can enjoy dinner and drinks at the Commons Club Restaurant and bar, or settle down for a nightcap in the Scarlet Lounge with its plush seating and romantic ambience.

Original Theatre Company have begun its nationwide tour of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack'd. Adapted for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff (Birdsong), you can see the production at theatres in Oxford, Northampton, York, Norwich, Southend and Cambridge – to name a few. In 1960s England, a wind of change is blowing in the sleepy village of St Mary Mead. There’s a new housing estate, which alarms the villagers as much as it intrigues them and, even more unsettling, a rich American film star has bought the manor house. Miss Marple (Susie Blake), confined to a chair after an accident, is wondering if life has passed her by. Then there’s a shocking murder, and she must unravel a web of lies, danger and tragedy…

Boys Hall, Kent
Set in a historic Jacobean manor house, Boys Hall is the new restaurant in Kent to have on your radar. After opening its doors last month following an extensive renovation, guests can now enjoy British classics in the main dining room, before it opens its pub and ten bedrooms upstairs in December. Located on the southern edge of the North Downs in Kent, the restaurant is open from Wednesdays to Sundays with a regularly changing menu that champions the best of English produce. Highlights include giant pork scratchings with spiced pear compote; lobster doughnuts; Marmite-glazed celeriac steak with chickpea chips and roasted portobello mushrooms; brown butter rice pudding with pickled blackberries; and millionaire hazelnut shortbread. Treatment rooms and luxury cabins on the estate are in the works, too.

SSAW Collective x Kudhva Bonfire Night Party, Cornwall
On Saturday 5th November, Ssaw Collective will team up with Kudhva (an off-grid glamping and cabin site in Cornwall) to host an environmental talk with local artists and celebrate Bonfire Night. Kudhva’s founder will lead the talk about the importance of a regenerative future and how adventure can be used as a tool for positive ecological change. In the evening, guests will then sit down at a candlelit table to enjoy a meal cooked over fire to showcase Cornish produce, before festivities continue around a traditional bonfire, with cocktails and a DJ set. You can book day tickets for the event, or stay overnight in one of Kudhva’s architectural hideouts, including a Danish-style wood cabin perched above a 40-foot waterfall, tree tents, tipis, or geometric treehouses.

Callow Hall Treehouses, Peak District
Callow Hall in the Peak District opened its doors last summer and within a few months won The Sunday Times’ hotel of the year thanks to its excellent facilities and stunning interiors by Isabella Worsley. Now, the hotel has opened two treehouses on its grounds. With interiors by Worsley and design by Blue Forest – the group behind The Fish and Chewton Glen – the treehouses sleep up to five across two bedrooms. Ideal for families and groups, each treehouse also has a bright open-plan living area with a kitchenette, and a private wraparound deck with a rolltop copper bath. Guests can use the hotel’s main facilities, including its restaurant and spa.

The Albion Aberteifi, Wales
This new hotel is the first project from Fforest, which has a range of outdoorsy accommodation options in Wales. Set across two Grade-II listed former warehouses in Cardigan, Wales, the hotel has nautical influences throughout to reflect the area’s maritime past. Guests can stay in one of 12 double bedrooms overlooking the River Teifi waterfront, with a further 11 rooms and family suites to open in the adjoining building next spring. Rooms are designed to look like a luxury boat cabin, with oak panelled walls, repurposed furniture and en-suites kitted out with Aesop toiletries. Guests can enjoy sundowner drinks at The Galley, dine at Yr Odyn restaurant, and relax in the outdoor sauna and onsen – both of which are set to open in the coming months.

Eat Your Own Ears, Manchester
On Saturday 19th November, London-based music collective Eat Your Own Ears is hosting an anniversary event at Depot Mayfield in Manchester. In collaboration with The Warehouse Project, the group will take over all three stages of the venue – Depot, Concourse and Archive. Some big names in techno, house and dance music will take to the stage, including Dj Seinfeld, Four Tet, Erol Alkan. Overmono – whose hits include ‘So U Kno’ and ‘Gunk’ – are set to headline.

The Bath Townhouse, Coppa Club, Bath
Coppa Club recently opened its eleventh outspost in Bath. Set in a Grade II-listed building, The Bath Townhouse is spread over two floors on Old Bond Street in the city’s shopping district. Guests can dine in the main restaurant and café on the ground floor before heading upstairs to the candlelit bar for cocktails and bar snacks while live musicians set the vibe. In terms of food, expect crowd-pleasing sharing plates like calamari with siracha mayo, burrata with roasted peppers and pesto, and buttermilk fried chicken, as well as main bistro classics like burgers, fishcakes, and steak.

Hare’s Tail Printing Workshops, Shropshire
Hare’s Tail Printing is hosting two block printing workshops at Master the Art in Shropshire on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th November. Led by Hare’s founder Speronella Marsh, students will learn about printing techniques – first on paper, then on fabric – which will be made into cushions to take home. You’ll also learn the basics of block printing, where Speronella finds her inspiration from, and how to apply your designs to other fabrics like napkins and tablecloths. From Wednesday 23rd to Wednesday 30th November, Hare's Printing is also heading to Portland Road in London to take part in Myriad Antiques' nutcracker-themed sale where you can shop its new collection of hand-block printed Christmas tablemats.

The Suffolk, Suffolk
George Pell created a bit of a buzz in Aldeburgh when he took his Soho restaurant L’Escargot to the Suffolk town for a summer pop-up. Now, Pell has opened a permanent outpost in Aldeburgh to showcase the area’s local produce. The Suffolk is housed in a former inn on Aldeburgh High Street where guests can settle down in its bright dining room to enjoy seafood dishes like lobster bisque with crab toast, BBQ monkfish tail with samphire, and grilled langoustines and aioli. Desserts include crème brûlée, and chocolate delice with salted caramel and hazelnut. In the coming months, the restaurant will also open a rooftop terrace, wine bar, two private dining rooms and – most excitingly – six en-suite bedrooms.
