Whether you’re keen to get out and see your favourite artists or find some new acts to add to your monthly Spotify playlist, here are 12 reasons to throw on your best rock tee and head to a gig in the next few months…

Lion Babe, Oslo Hackney

Drawing on a Nordic aesthetic, Oslo Hackney offers a diverse music programme in a redeveloped Victorian railway station. Next month will see New York R&B duo Lion Babe (multidisciplinary artist Jillian Hervey and record producer-DJ Lucas Goodman) take to the stage. The pair are known for their high-concept look and describe their genre as ‘futuristic nostalgia’. Ones to watch.

Pixies, Alexandra Palace

With a new album due out this autumn, Pixies kick off a world tour at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff before heading to atmospheric Ally Pally on 20th September. Led as ever by Black Francis on rhythm guitar and vocals, the US band will be supported at this show by special guests The Big Moon, so make sure to arrive early.

George Ezra, Royal Albert Hall

Singer-songwriter George Ezra has confirmed a pair of London headline dates. He will perform on consecutive nights at the grand Royal Albert Hall in aid of mental health charity Mind. The shows mark the conclusion of the Staying at Tamara’s tour, in support of his number-one album, which featured the singles Don’t Matter Now, Paradise, Shotgun and Hold My Girl.

Peaches, Southbank Centre 

Feminist pop icon Peaches will premiere a new show at the Southbank Centre. The pioneering musician has created a genre that focuses on music, performance and cross-media practices, bringing sex-positive feminism into nightclubs and concert halls across the world. In ‘There’s Only One Peach with the Hole in the Middle’, she’s created a 40-strong ensemble that catapults her vision of the past, present and future of queer feminism onto the stage.

The Warehouse Project, Manchester

The Warehouse Project has revealed the full 2019 schedule for what it’s calling its most daring season to date. The majority of the action will take place down at its newly minted, 10,000-capacity basecamp, the Depot at Mayfield. The season will feature shows from dance heavyweights Aphex Twin, Underworld, Four Tet, Nina Kraviz, Bicep, Fatboy Slim, Haçienda Classiçal, Above & Beyond, Paradise and Drumcode.

Two Door Cinema Club, The O2

Following the release of their fourth album, Two Door Cinema Club hit up The O2 this October. The Bangor three piece’s new direction finds them scanning and satirising the social and environmental woes of 2019 and beyond through the prism of off-kilter pop, simultaneously borrowing from and warping elements of future pop, disco, rock, funk and soul. Support comes from Tom Grennan.

John Mayer, The O2

Grammy award-winning artist John Mayer has added two London dates to his 2019 world tour, stopping at The O2 on 13th and 14th October. Super-fans will be pleased to learn that these Evening with John Mayer concerts will feature two performances a night, spanning the musician’s entire recording career.

Kate Tempest, Eventim Apollo

Critically acclaimed British spoken-word artist, rapper, poet, novelist and playwright Kate Tempest lands at the Apollo this autumn. Since 2011 the London-born artist has redefined what it means to be a wordsmith in the modern age. She has published three poetry collections, one book-length poem and a novel, staged three plays and released two solo studio albums. Everybody Down and Let Them Eat Chaos were both nominated for the Mercury Prize. If you’re after something different, this one’s for you.

Holly Herndon, Barbican 

Electronic musician Holly Herndon explores technology’s potential through artificial intelligence, vocals and visuals. For this autumn tour at which she will perform music from her album Proto, Herndon will be joined on her autumn tour by an expanded vocal ensemble, her machine-intelligence creation ‘Spawn’ and a newly developed AV experience.

Hot Chip, Alexandra Palace 

UK synth-pop favourites Hot Chip will step onto the stage of Ally Pally this October for their biggest ever UK show. Playing all the hits, alongside cuts from this year’s highly acclaimed A Bath Full Of Ecstasy album, fans are guaranteed a dance marathon from start to finish. What’s more, there’s support from London singer Rosie Lowe.

Of Monsters And Men, Eventim Apollo

Icelandic indie-folk band Of Monsters and Men are best known for their smash hit Little Talks, which reached number one around the world. This show at the Apollo will build on that, showcasing songs from the five-piece’s new album Fever Dream. There’s a reason Of Monsters And Men were the first Icelandic band to reach over one billion Spotify streams: expect a night of kaleidoscopic pop and laid-back melodies.

Jonas Brothers, The O2 and SSE Arena

The Grammy, American Music and Billboard award-winning brothers released their latest album, Happiness Begins, in June and lead single Sucker went on to reach number one in the US. Next comes their first European headline tour in nearly a decade. Across two London shows, Nick, Joe and Kevin will call on all five of the studio albums they’ve released since 2005. We’re expecting a slick performance.
