READ THIS DEBUT NOVEL: Other People's Clothes By Calla Henkel
Calla Henkel’s debut thriller came out last week. Two art students arrive in Berlin from New York, both desperate for the city to solve their problems. Zoe is grieving for her high school best friend, murdered months before in her hometown in Florida. Hailey is rich, obsessed with the exploits of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. Together, they rent a huge apartment from eccentric crime writer Beatrice Beck and spend their nights twisting through Berlin's club scene. Soon, inexplicable things start happening in the apartment and the two friends suspect they are being watched by Beatrice. Convinced that their landlord is using their lives as inspiration for her next thriller novel, they decide to beat her at her own game. The girls start hosting wild parties in the flat and quickly gain notoriety, with everyone clamouring for an invite. But ultimately, they find themselves unable to control the narrative and it spirals into much darker territory. A must-read this summer.

If you’ve been following the #FreeBritney movement and the media coverage of Britney Spears’ controversial conservatorship, this new eight-part podcast is a must-listen. Written and presented by journalist and SL friend Pandora Sykes, it tells the story of Britney’s journey from small-town girl to one of the most successful popstars of all time. Told through interviews with people who knew her during the peak of her career, as well as TV clips, and dramatised versions of events performed by actors, you’ll hear how she landed her big break as a child star on the Mikey Mouse Club, went on to sell millions of records worldwide, and struggled with fame and family heartbreak which ultimately led to her public breakdown in 2007. With classic Britney songs woven throughout each episode, it’s as much a celebration of her life and career as it is as a critique of the media and notorious paparazzi of the noughties.
