However, just a few months later, he was on trial for the murder of a New Jersey state attorney, claiming it was self-defence. This series charts Kai’s bizarre overnight success followed by his swift downfall that resulted in imprisonment.

The Pale Blue Eye, Netflix
Based on the novel by Louis Bayard, The Pale Blue Eye is set in 1830s New York at the West Point military academy. With a star-studded cast including Christian Bale, Gillian Anderson, Timothy Spall, Toby Jones and Harry Melling, the story begins in the early hours of a grey winter morning when a cadet is found dead. After the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skilfully removed. Fearing irreparable damage to the fledgling military academy, its leaders turn to a local detective, Augustus Landor (Bale), to solve the murder. Blocked by the cadets’ code of silence, Landor enlists the help of one of their own to pursue the case, an eccentric cadet with a disdain for the military and a penchant for poetry – a young man named Edgar Allan Poe (Melling).

Spector, Now
Spector is a new four-part documentary series about enigmatic, legendary music producer Phil Spector and what happened on the fateful night of 3rd February 2003 when actress Lana Clarkson was shot dead in his mansion. The series has been executive produced by Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) and Oscar-winning director James Marsh (Man on Wire, The Night Of). In episode one, a chance encounter between Clarkson and Spector ends in the shooting that forever warps his legacy. The series then peels back the layers of one of Hollywood’s most tragic crimes to paint a more human portrait of Clarkson and the deeply disturbed man convicted of her murder.

What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heart-breaking journey, as they both must traverse the US and depend on each other for survival.

Truth Be Told, Series 3, Apple TV
Series three of the US drama Truth Be Told offers a glimpse into America’s obsession with true crime podcasts and challenges its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is put on a public stage. After investigating a string of unsolved murder cases, Poppy (Octavia Spencer) is frustrated by the lack of media attention for several young missing Black girls. She teams up with an unorthodox principal (Gabrielle Union) to keep the victims' names in the public eye while chasing down leads to a suspected sex trafficking ring that may have ensnared them.
