SUSHISAMBA Covent Garden

Following the success of its UK launch atop the Heron Tower in 2012, Sushisamba has opened its second London site on the Opera Terrace of Covent Gardens famous Market Building. Known for its blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian culture cuisine, the interiors have been inspired by the lush wildlife found in these three countries. Paying homage to the East Opera Terrace͛s heritage– it was originally occupied by glasshouses from which exotic plants were sold–the restaurants lounge and bar features a living ceiling, topped with South American and Japanese plants. Crowned by a glass roof, the restaurant runs along the entire east side of the market, allowing for beautiful views across the piazza–we imagine the open-air terrace will come into its own in the summer. Back in the dining room, a theatre-style open kitchen and Robata grill take centre stage. Across both this and the open sushi bar, Sushisambas menus showcase modern takes on traditional dishes such as moqueca mista, a traditional Brazilian stew of shrimp, squid and sea bass with coconut and lime; Peruvian-inspired tuna ceviche with pomegranate leche de tigre maiz morado, wasabi pea and basil; and sushi and sashimi, including the brand's trademarked Samba Roll El Topo with salmon, jalapeño, shiso leaf, fresh melted mozzarella and crispy onion–a must-try.

Fire-cooked specialities include wood-roasted scallops with bone marrow XO; smoked eel with braised shin of highland beef;and a sh-baked turnip mimosa. Award-winning drinks experts, brothers Max and Noel Venning of Dalston bar Three Sheets, have created a list of re-imagined cocktail classics using unexpected ingredients to complement the menu. Berenjak

Berenjak, named for the handfuls of crunchy toasted rice eaten as a snack at funfairs in Iran, takes inspiration from classic hole-in-the-wall kabab houses that line the streets of Tehran, as well as from founder and chef Kian Samyanis childhood spent gathering around the dining table with his Iranian family. Part of the same family as Trishna, Bubbledogs, Bao, Xu, Gymkhana, Hoppers, Lyle's and Brigadiers, you know what to expect –a bold take on traditional world dishes, served in super-stylish surroundings. Drawingon his heritage to evoke the style of a rustic Persian kabab house, at BerenjakSamyani reinterprets signature dishes using seasonal British produce: think kashk e bademjoon (blackened aubergine with whey, walnuts and dried mint) and a daily-changing kuku (a fragrant omelette of seasonal herbs and eggs, served with whipped Westcombe ricotta). Whether perched around the kitchen counter or gathered at one of the communal tables, guests can take their pick from traditional kababs hot from the tanoor – wed go for guinea fowl legs stewed with saffron, onion, potatoes and barberries. At the bar, traditional sharbats (sparkling, yoghurt-based drinks) will be given an elegant makeover with house araks and sabzi.
