Mr Fogg’s Apothecary, Mayfair

Mr Fogg’s Apothecary is the first opening from the team behind Mr Fogg’s, Cahoots and Bunga Bunga in more than four years. On Brook Street directly opposite Claridge’s, the elegant new venue is another space that will transport guests into Phileas Foggs’ eccentric world. A grand staircase leads guests to an impressive long bar stocked with Foggs’ extensive apothecary collection. Of the concoctions on offer, we like the sound of the delicate and citrusy ‘Tixylix’, a gin cocktail made with sage-infused Bombay Sapphire, Calabro fennel liqueur and fresh lemon juice. Elsewhere, the drawing room resembles a magnificent Mayfair townhouse with grandfather clocks, large armchairs and sofas to create a space for guests to settle in for the evening – ideal for groups of friends looking for somewhere unusual for a night out.

Moët & Chandon at Harrods, Knightsbridge

Famed champagne house Moët & Chandon has opened its largest standalone champagne bar in Europe. On the ground floor of iconic department store Harrods, the Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar’s centrepiece is a dramatic hand-sculpted, gold chandelier – inspired by the terroir and topography of the Epernay Champagne region, where the champagne house is based – set around a 34-seat bar. The space offers a full selection Moët & Chandon wines, served by the glass, in standard bottles and in magnums. To accompany each glass, guests can order from a selection of savoury and sweet dishes, including fresh seafood, pastries and cakes – the ideal spot for a drink after an afternoon’s shopping.

The Little Scarlet Door, Soho

The Little Door & Co – known across London for creating fun, house-party style venues – has now arrived in Soho. Set across two floors in the newly redeveloped Ilona Rose House on Greek Street, The Little Scarlet Door is the group’s first central London venue following sites in Notting Hill, Fulham and Clapham. Unlike the original trio, all of which have interiors inspired by a quintessential London maisonette, this site is open plan and metropolitan, taking cues from New York’s loft apartments. The kitchen doubles up as the bar – complete with Smeg fridge – plus, there’s a living room, laundry room and a series of breakaway areas to drink in. Wednesdays through to Saturdays sees DJs take to the decks, while drinks come in the form of sharing cocktails served in vases and mixing bowls, including the ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ (Hendricks gin, Reyka vodka, St Germain, apple, rosemary and sage) and a signature house punch, made with Bacardi spiced rum, Toki dark rum, Wray & Nephew rum, guava and fruit juices. Sharing plates include charcuterie boards, mezze plates and late-night toasties.

Punch Room, Fitzrovia

Punch Room has reopened with an innovative new menu. Inside The London Edition hotel, the bar is a contemporary reincarnation of London’s 19th-century private clubs, featuring tufted banquettes in teal velvet, overstuffed mint green leather tub chairs and dark brown leather club chairs, set to a soundtrack of vintage jazz, reggae, and soul through the ages. The new menu, titled ‘Inception’, takes its inspiration from four influential figures from the history of punch, who have each transformed the evolution of the drink through new ingredients, techniques and concepts. We like the sound of the ‘Napalese Gimlet’ (rose and hibiscus haku, Grand Marnier, rhubarb cordial and hibiscus tea); and the inventive non-alcoholic ‘Eastbound’ (Everleaf Mountain, lime juice, sugar syrup, jasmine tea, rhubarb and hibiscus soda and rose foam).

10 Berners Street, Fitzrovia, W1T 3NP

Bar des Prés Lounge, Mayfair

French restaurateur Cyril Lignac's new destination lounge has opened on Albemarle Street. Inspired by 1950s Paris, the lounge is part of his chic Franco-East Asian restaurant Bar des Prés. The richly designed lounge has been created by celebrated Parisian firm Dion et Arles: plush armchairs are set against a rich palette of vivid hues, bold patterns and mahogany wood detailing, evoking the decadent atmosphere of mid-century bar à vins in the French capital. The drinks menu takes its cues from Cyril’s background, celebrating the variety of wines from Burgundy to Bordeaux and beyond. French wines by the glass will be the star of the show, with 20 varieties on offer starting from £9. Small plates include squid tempura with wasabi cream and wakumé crisps; and miso caramelised green asparagus with sesame seeds.

Provisions, Holloway

This summer has seen the long-awaited return of Provisions’ wine bar at the original Holloway Road site, following its pandemic-related closed in 2020. As suppliers of some of London’s leading restaurants, including Salon, Levan, Sager + Wilde, Casse-Croûte, Bright and Chiltern Firehouse, this is the place to try decent wine in a relaxed, friendly setting. Each Wednesday to Friday evening, Provisions’ versatile space transforms from delicatessen to casual wine bar, seating up to 20 guests, where the list focuses on organic and biodynamic wines served alongside a food menu curated to showcase some of the deli’s best produce: think cheese plates, cured meats and antipasti. In addition to pet nat, orange, red and white wines available by the glass, guests can choose bottles from a wall of natural wines, as well as a selection of special, old and rare bottles.
