8 Fashion Podcasts To Listen To Now

A third lockdown is the perfect time to explore new podcasts, and with Chanel launching its latest offering this week, there are plenty more shows out there from which to get your fashion fix. Here are some of our favourites…

Chanel Connects 

Last Thursday, Chanel dropped seven episodes of its latest podcast series named ‘Chanel Connects’. Gathering some of the brightest talents from the fields of fashion, art, film, music, dance and architecture, including actors Tilda Swinton and Kiera Knightley, plus musician Pharell Williams and British Vogue’s Edward Enninful, each episode sees three gathered to discuss and reflect on 2020 and how it affected the cultural landscape. 

Episode highlight: Fashion’s Untold Stories 

Editor-at-Large at The Business Of Fashion, Tim Blanks, is joined by creative consultant and long-time collaborator of Karl Lagerfeld, Amanda Harlech, as well as Andrew Boulton, the curator in charge at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. The trio discuss their individual perspectives on fashion history, while unearthing some forgotten stories.

Business Of Fashion

Fashion girls are likely to be regular readers of The Business Of Fashion – the online news hub for all things style. In a similar vein, its podcast tackles some of the biggest issues facing the industry globally. Hosted by CEO and founder, Imran Ahmed, recent guests have included designer Tory Burch and photographer David Bailey, with topics ranging from the US Election to fashion’s position during the pandemic. 

Episode highlight: Tory Burch On Finding Purpose In Female Empowerment

Host Imran is joined by revered American designer Tory Burch, to discuss her new approach to design in the wake of the pandemic, as well as her decision to set up her charity, The Tory Burch Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing women’s empowerment.

Fashion Fix With Charli Howard 

With a focus on sustainability, model Charli Howard discusses how to dress stylishly while being kinder to the planet, with each episode in her eponymous podcast looking at a different issue, with the help of guests such as Daisy Lowe and influencer Grace Beverley. Topics range from vegan fashion to fair pay for garment workers, so if becoming more informed about your fashion purchases is your aim, it’s well worth a listen. 

Episode highlight: Sustainable Trainers with Veja 

If you don’t already own a pair of Veja trainers, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll know someone that does – the brand is widely known for its sustainability credentials and counts Meghan Markle among its fans. In this episode, Howard is joined by one of the brand’s co-founders, François-Ghislain Morillion, so you can hear from the horse’s mouth what goes on behind-the-scenes at the shoe brand everyone’s talking about.

Fashion No Filter 

Hosted by influencers Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley, Fashion No Filter offers an array of behind-the-scenes insights into what goes on in the fashion industry. The hosts also share their own insider intel from the FROW, and interview an impressive roster of guests including Instagram’s Eva Chen, Pernille Teisbaek and founder of Khaite, Cate Holstein. While each episode explores a particular subject in depth, it’s interspersed with playful chat that makes it a lighthearted listen.

Episode highlight: Secrets From Celebrity Stylist Kate Young

Stylist for a host of A-list names including Sienna Miller, Margot Robbie, Selena Gomez and Rachel Weisz, Kate Young joins Camille and Monica to reveal what the reality is like when it comes to styling celebrities for some of the biggest red carpet events and, of course, as her former assistant, what it’s really like to work for Anna Wintour.

The Future Of Fashion by Vogue Business 

As its name suggests, The Future Of Fashion discusses some of the most important issues facing an industry in flux, from sustainability, to influencer marketing and shopping online versus IRL. Unsurprisingly, Vogue Business pulls in some of the most knowledgeable experts in their respective fields to offer their expertise, from Moda Operandi’s Lisa Aiken to designer Gabriela Hearst. 

Episode highlight: Instagram’s Eva Chen on Pushing for More Inclusivity in Fashion 

Instagram famously keeps its cards close to its chest, so an in depth chat with its director of fashion partnerships, Eva Chen offers a fascinating look into the app’s shifting role from social to shopping platform. She also discusses how the media company aims to champion diversity and inclusivity within fashion, which historically has been inaccessible to so many.

Creative Conversations With Suzy Menkes 

In Creative Conversations, editor of Vogue International Suzy Menkes leverages her industry connections to interview some of fashion’s most highly regarded designers, from Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing to Christian Louboutin. As expected, the conversations are fascinating, with Menkes proving to be one of the best when it comes to getting the best from her interviewees. 

Episode highlight: Wes Gordon For Carolina Herrera 

Creative director of Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon, talks to Menkes about dressing Kamala Harris in the now iconic white suit she wore the day she became Vice-President Elect on November 7th 2020, and the cultural significance of that choice. He also reveals what it’s like to dress celebrities like Meghan Markle and Katy Perry, as well the passions that inspire his designs.

Unified by the notion that ‘we all have one thing in common – every day we all get dressed’, this podcast offers a light-hearted look at the history of fashion and the social and cultural influences that inspire trends past and present. With dozens of episodes available on a variety of topics, from sunglasses to iconic figures, there’s plenty to binge on. 

Episode highlight: Fashion’s Frontier: Denim, an Interview with Emma McClendon

There are few items in fashion which are as widely worn as jeans, so if you’re looking for a place to start in Dressed’s vast archive, head to the end of season two for this in-depth look at the history of denim. Joined by fashion historian Emma McClendon, it’s a bite-sized insight into the origins of the wardrobe staple that men and women have loved for decades.

A former Vogue contributing fashion editor and self-confessed ‘Queen of Thrift’, Bay Garnett was one of the first stylists to bring vintage clothes to luxury fashion shoots and in ‘This Old Thing?’, she explains why everyone should shop pre-loved. Each episode discusses the earliest and most significant fashion memories of her guests – which have included journalist Pandora Sykes, singer Emili Sande and businesswoman Mary Portas – as well as offering listeners her best thrifting tips.
