6 New Restaurants To Book This Month
TH@51, Westminster
Taj 51 Buckingham Gate kicked off 2022 with the launch of a new restaurant and bar. Named TH@51, the restaurant aims to reflects the capital’s variety of culinary offerings. On the menu, expect to find the likes of Italian burrata and kale chaat served with mint and tamarind chutney; a take on a scotch egg featuring crispy Mumbai-spiced lamb mince, egg, curried mayonnaise and mango chutney; paneer wellington with spiced tikka masala, garlic, baby spinach and mascarpone makhana; followed a Korean twist on roast chicken, served with smoked peppers, sticky honey sesame potatoes and buttered kale. Designed by Conran & Partners, the décor in the glass dining room is bright and airy, complete with soft wood cladding and a colour palette of on-trend greens and pinks. An open kitchen adds an element of theatre while a chef’s table takes centre stage.

Happy Face Pizza, Victoria
Happy Face Pizza is now serving its signature slices at Eccleston Yards. Known for its light dough – made using a 72-hour ferment to create a lighter, fluffier crust – expect a concise menu of Neapolitan-style pizzas. Topping options include tomato, mushrooms, mozzarella, taleggio and artichoke; mozzarella, rocket, prosciutto crudo and parmesan; and vegan pepperoni. Created by the team behind Spiritland, expect to hear great music across an impressive sound system – making it a good choice for parties and lively dinners. The 50-cover restaurant takes inspiration from the King’s Cross original, with pops of green and yellow contrasting with exposed brickwork, high-top tables, and an open kitchen laid out around its all-important pizza oven. Best of all, the pizzeria is giving diners a 50% discount on pizza until the end of the month.

The Aubrey, Knightsbridge
One of the most anticipated launches this year, The Aubrey is almost ready to open at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. Following a huge fire at the hotel in 2018, the team has pulled out all the stops for its new restaurant, which joins the ever-popular Dinner by Heston. Replacing Bar Boulud, it’s set to be the first UK venture from Maximal Concepts, a multi award-winning restaurant group that has its roots in Hong Kong. The Aubrey promises to create a fully immersive experience focused on art and design, but we love the sound of it because it’s an izakaya, with menus showcasing traditional Japanese cooking techniques and sustainable produce – think A3 wagyu beef and Hokkaido crab. In the same space, two bars will offer distinctive cocktail menus and there will be a daily afternoon tea before The Aubrey transforms into a lively evening destination.

Seasons, Mayfair
Seasons opened just before Christmas and promises what it calls a “luxury pescatarian dining experience”. Taking over the site of longstanding Michelin-starred restaurant The Square, the restaurant has an enviable location between the mews of Bruton Place and Berkeley Square. The team – which already runs popular sites in Notting Hill, Chelsea, Kensington and Fitzrovia – champions high-quality fish, vegetables and dairy, with no meat on its menu at all. Inspired by the Mediterranean, the menu features a raw fish bar displaying the catch of the day on ice and a marble bar piled with oysters. Highlights include smoked eel with apple and celeriac remoulade; squid-ink pasta with clams, seabass and bottarga; and pizzas topped with native lobster, red prawns and crème fraiche. The wine list also leans into the Mediterranean theme, with bottles from Piemonte, Andalusia and Bourgogne. For those looking for something a little different, Seasons also has a selection of sakés served warm or cold with tasting notes designed specifically to be paired with seafood.

The Bulgari Lounge, Knightsbridge
The Bulgari Lounge has been given a fresh look. Now, the elegant space in Knightsbridge offers all-day dining in the comfort of what the team describe as an Italian-style "living room". The lounge is also home to the hotel's new signature ‘Dolci’ experience designed by pastry chef and chocolatier-in-residence Gianluca Fusto. Highlights on the menu include a selection of mono porzione, such as the ‘Sicilian’ with lemon, almond and fennel, and the ‘Maya’, a combination of caramelised sesame seed, Belize chocolate and caramel. For something savoury, there’s also a selection of Italian classics, such as Roman-style pizza with mature cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan flakes and truffle paste; and Puglia burrata with confit datterino tomatoes, basil with Essenza di Carma extra virgin olive oil. For larger groups after some excellent Italian food, we also love the hotel’s other restaurant, Sette.
