5 New London Gyms To Try This Spring

Recent figures show the UK has over 7,000 gyms, with more continuing to pop up in the capital. From aerial acrobatics to gyms that cater for the unemployed, here are the top five new openings across London guaranteed to get you fit…

FOR PERSONAL TRAINING: AMP Athletic

Steve Mellor, founder and coach-in-chief of AMP has constructed this quirky new space in an ex-car park in Marylebone. With a fully equipped gym and a roster of some of the capital’s hottest personal trainers, their goal is to make exercise and personal training sessions feel accessible and achievable. If you don’t enjoy exercising alone, there’s group PT sessions, as well as time-tabled classes, movement screenings and unlimited access to the facilities. You’ll get a full nutritional plan upon joining which aims to keep you motivated so you can get the very best results. A carefully curated playlist will keep you feeling pumped and uplifted too – we expect big things from this new fitness concept.

Memberships start from £199 a month, or a 30-day trial is available for £149. For more information visit AMP.Fit

FOR INTENSE CARDIO: Third Space ‘The Yard’

Based in Canary Wharf, The Yard is London’s largest training space. Offering  aflexible timetable of classes and catering for all levels of skill, it’s a no brainer for fitness fanatics or those wanting to try a new workout. Sweat it out in the chic cross-training area or try one of their newest classes – we recommend Yard Circuits if you really want to elevate your heart rate. There’s a sauna and steam room too with luxe showers for you to indulge in post-workout.

FOR ADDICTIVE CLASSES: F45

The clue is in the name of new gym spot F45 – each of their high-intensity classes takes 45 minutes while the F stands for functional training. With up 3,000 exercises (and more in the pipeline) the idea is you’ll never get the same workout twice. The type on offer include HIIT, Circuit Training and other workouts with lean-making moves. More studios are planned to open in King’s Cross and Cannon Street but our favourite is the one based at Oxford Circus for it’s functionable space and clean environment that allows you stay focused.

FOR VARIED WORKOUTS: Gymbox

Located in Farringdon, there’s little Gymbox can’t help you with. From weightlifting to Muay Thai sparring lessons right through to a dedicated water rowing area, this is the place for those who like variation. There’s also a seriously Instagrammable Aerial Acrobatics section – don’t leave without checking it out.

A membership with unlimited classes starts at £71 a month while a day pass at Gymbox (for non-members) costs £20 for more information head to Gymbox.com/Farringdon

FOR COLLABORATIVE TRAINING: The Foundry

With no sign-up contract and a stripped-back selection of classes, the Foundry offers group-led coaching that’s available to everyone – from professional athletes to fitness novices. Co-founded by a former pro rugby player, you can expect workouts that push you,  out of your comfort zone. Another bonus is their offer of calmer, moderate classes first thing in the morning for the retired, single parents and also the unemployed.
