How To Make Your Christmas Shopping Go Further

Take a moment to look at the number of presents mounting under the Christmas tree and stop to consider quite how much money is changing hands at this time of year. It’s likely to be a stark reminder that for some people Christmas is a pretty depressing time of the year. If you’re keen on the idea of giving back a little this Christmas , here are the charitable donation websites ensuring a few pennies in the pounds you spend online go towards a worthy cause…

Amazon Smile

It turns out the biggest online retailer in the world has a charitable side, with Amazon Smile dedicated to donating 0.5% of the net price of eligible purchases to the charity of your choice. Simply head to the Amazon Smile site and start shopping. The product range is exactly the same as the main platform, and there’s no need to set up a new account. Log in with your existing Amazon credentials and your Wish Lists and Order History will be ready and waiting. You can also change your chosen charity at any time, allowing you to support multiple causes throughout the year.

Easy Fundraising

Over 1.6m people signed up to Easy Fundraising have raised nearly £30m for 140,000 different charities since 2005. From local schools and sports clubs to cancer research and the Alzheimer’s Society, the site donates money from shopping done via more than 3,800 online retailers, including eBay, Sainsbury’s and Ocado. Head to the Easy Fundraising website to click through to your preferred retailer before selecting which cause you’d like to support.

Give As You Live

Head to Give As You Live and pick your chosen charity before moving through to any one of their 4,400 retail partners' websites to start giving back. Sister site EveryClick helps you raise money every time you search online through the Bing browser – giving you double the bang for your buck. The handy calculator on the Give As You Live homepage will also give a quick heads-up about how much you could donate per year, just through everyday online shopping for things like groceries, travel and insurance.

Go Raise

Looking to raise money for the village hall, Scout group or sports club? Go Raise supports a range of local community causes. Sign up alone or in groups to set up your fundraising event, before shopping with any of its 3,000 retail partners – including Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Net-a-Porter – and they’ll donate a percentage of your shopping total to your cause. Donations differ across the board, but your account will summarise your progress to help you keep track.

The Giving Machine

Signing up to The Giving Machine will help you support up to four different charities at once. Create an account online and click through to any number of shops registered with The Giving Machine. You can also set up a handy desktop reminder or download the mobile app to make sure sales commissions are donated every time you shop, with total donations available to view via your account summary.
