My Little Black Book of Wellness: Giselle La Pompe-Moore
For Stress-Relieving Massage…
“There’s something almost transcendental about getting a massage at Ouro with Roberta Kearsey. While your body is very much being tended to, it’s almost like she’s reaching in through your skin and deep into your soul. With breaths punctuating each movement, not only does it feel like bodywork, but mind, soul and body, work. Bodied in Hackney is also on my list. It serves up some of the best massages in London and it’s also working to raise awareness of complementary health practices in minority ethnic communities.”
For Facials…
“I often book in with Dija Ayodele and her team at West Room Aesthetics. Black skin has specific needs, and after a lifetime using products for oily skin, I’ve realised my skin is thirsty for ceramides. For both expert knowledge and the Reset Facial, I’ll forever be a ride-or-die fan of Dija’s work. For something a little different, I go to Liberty to see Nicole Campbell-Watson for her Wild Source facials. It’s a first-of-its-kind facial that combines natural and thoughtfully made Wild Source skincare with Nicole’s gentle technique.”
For Unwinding…
“For the ultimate reset, it doesn’t get better than the spa at the Four Seasons Hotel on Park Lane. The treatments are a delight, but it’s the location that sets them apart. The spa is on the tenth floor of the hotel and looks out over London’s skyline. You can use the spa facilities – think a eucalyptus steam room and Himalayan salt wall sauna – and pool before your treatment. I could quite happily spend an hour in one of its relaxation pods every day.”
For Acupuncture…
“A recent acupuncture session with Joanna Ellner – currently in residence at 180 Health Club – blew my mind before my weary back even had a chance to land on the treatment bed. An in-depth traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) consultation, which included a pulse and tongue check, unlocked layers of meaning and causes for symptoms I’ve had my entire life in the space of a few minutes. The magic kept coming once we continued the session – I floated out afterwards.”
For A Healthy Mindset…
“When I had The Bradden Method Boost Treatment at Hershesons with Britt Hanson, I wasn’t expecting to feel physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually balanced within the space of an hour. I’m pretty sure I had an out-of-body moment during this multi-sensory experience, which included cosmetic acupuncture, ear seeds, LED light, EMDR soundscapes and gentle touch. When I’m feeling out of balance, this is the treatment I book.”
For Astrology…
“I’ve just stepped away from doing one-to-one spiritual treatments after five years, and while I have my own practices I use daily, I always check in with other practitioners at least a few times a year. I go to Sade The Astrology Vixen for astrology readings. She has an innate ability to see the entirety of an individual and not just use your birth chart to put you in a stereotypical box. Astrology with Sade is a fantastic tool for greater self-discovery and growth.”
For Crystals…
“She’s Lost Control on Broadway Market is one of London’s best hidden secrets. Not only does it have an incredible roster of practitioners and events, but it also sells everything from incense to candles and books. I could spend hours in there. It’s also the founder of Crystal Clear, which promotes mine to market transparent crystals with a social conscience, which is crucial for ensuring a transparent supply chain when you buy a crystal. A percentage goes to the initiative when you buy one of its crystals.”
For Supplements…
“I always find so many gems on Victoria Health, such as Ross J. Barr’s patches. The Calm patches in particular are great for easing headaches and migraines as well as soothing frustration and boosting brain power.”
For Yoga…
“I spent much of my life having quite a contentious relationship with my body due to sexual trauma, and I wish this was spoken about more, as fitness classes that focused on pushing into discomfort would often leave me feeling dysregulated. I don’t tend to go to in-person studios often, but I can’t get enough of Sky Ting’s online studio. Although it’s based in NYC, they offer online classes – there are hundreds of incredible classes for all levels, including different teachers and different styles.”
For Muscle Recovery…
“Masaj in Shoreditch will always have a place in my heart for its deep tissue and sports massages. I’m constantly searching for that full-body, muscle-relaxing, soothing relief after a treatment and Masaj always delivers. It’s a complete exhale for your muscles.”
For An Escape…
“The in-person and online retreats that Secret Yoga Club founder Gabrielle Hales hosts are always nourishing and healing spaces. I’ve had real breakthroughs on some of her retreats.”
