Shopfront: The Edition 94

Some shops are so gorgeous, you want to move in. On the Fulham Road, right where Fulham meets Kensington, The Edition 94 is one of those. A homeware and interiors shop that opened in September, it is the vision of India Whalley, an interior designer and gallery curator who opened the shop to showcase her collection of vintage treasures and bespoke pieces – which started after she bought a selection of Murano glassware on an impulsive trip to a Parisian flea market.

Her collection now encompasses lighting, ceramics, furniture and tableware – including many one-off vintage pieces. “Our antique and vintage pieces are predominantly sourced in the UK along with a lot of our ceramics, which are handmade,” says India. “We also source a lot of items from around the world – from the Philippines and Portugal to Ireland and India. A few recent favourite finds include our Murano mushroom lamps, vintage tablecloths and candlestick holders.” Some scallop-edged tables in candy-cane colours turned our head and we also love the patterned mugs with delicate decorative handles. 

When India noticed how popular placemats were, she was inspired to launch On The Table, a tablescaping collection. To elevate your dining beyond the everyday, India has partnered with Jen Grant, former Vogue art director and founder of stationery company Romeo + Jules, who designs bespoke menus and name cards. Every six to eight weeks, Romeo + Jules and The Edition 94 collaborate on a specific tablescape scheme, with tableware curated by India and stationery designed to match by Jen – with a new theme each time. “There is so much love for all things centered around the home and table at the moment,” notes Jen. “And after designing menus and unique elements for my own table and friends, I thought it would be a good idea to add to our collection as a whole. After meeting India, I knew we had chanced upon something unique.”

Tablescape sets will be available to buy in their entirety for you to lay yourself at home, but you can also buy each element individually online and in the shop. If you want to draw inspiration from India without investing in the whole setting, she has this advice: “Start with the fabric or the tablecloth. I love pulling out different tones and layering these into the design and adding texture. Once you’ve selected your tablecloth, consider your napkins and placemats; then add plates and glasses, using them to introduce colour and texture where wanted.” After that, think about other ways to dress the table. India suggests using a variety of heights of vases to create movement along the table. “Bud vases are a great way of adding length to the table but, to make a table feel festive, it’s all about ribbon and pine cones! Use ribbons around napkins and menus, and simply place pine cones around the table to fill spaces.”
