Fergus Hare
Brighton-based Fergus Hare’s paintings and drawings depict people and places that imbue a sense of familiarity while retaining an abstract quality. He made his name with moonscapes in oil but now focuses on scenes closer to home. In these pictures of everyday life – such as a day on the beach or at the races – faces are hidden and clothes are timeless. Working in pastels, acrylic or oils, Fergus prefers a restricted palette, using light and colour gently.

Often painting ‘en plein air’, she evokes the sensory essence of the day, whether that be layers of intense heat, wind rushing through lush greenery or a promise of rain.
