The Mastermind

Director Kelly Reichardt (First Cow, Showing Up) returns with a quietly gripping crime drama starring Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown). Set in 1970s America, it follows Mooney, a restless young man who, along with two friends, strolls into a museum in broad daylight and walks out with four stolen paintings. But when holding onto the art proves harder than stealing it, Mooney’s life unravels into one of paranoia, evasion and quiet desperation. Shot with Reichardt’s signature restraint and poetic realism, Mastermind transforms a heist story into something more meditative – a study of guilt, greed and the fragile allure of freedom.
