TUESDAY

America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, Netflix

Netflix turns its cameras to Texas for this glossy eight-parter charting the Dallas Cowboys’ reinvention in the 1990s. With maverick owner Jerry Jones pulling the strings, the team went from underdogs to three-time Super Bowl champions in less than a decade – leaving chaos, controversy and jaw-dropping headlines in their wake. Expect archive footage, candid interviews with legends like Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders, plus plenty of swagger from Jones himself.

WEDNESDAY

The Twisted Tale Of Amanda Knox, Disney+

Disney+ delivers an ambitious new retelling of one of the 21st century’s most infamous legal sagas. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is an eight-part drama based on Knox’s own perspective, following her wrongful conviction for the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher and the long fight to clear her name. Executive produced by Knox herself, it stars Grace Van Patten and leans heavily into courtroom tension and media spectacle. Glossy, stylised and deliberately provocative, it captures both the chaos of the trial and the hysteria surrounding it. Expect debate and divided opinions when it lands this week.

FRIDAY

The Thursday Murder Club

Out for a week in select UK cinemas before it hits Netflix, the adaptation of the storming bestseller The Thursday Murder Club is finally here. Based on Richard Osman’s novel, this cosy crime caper follows four retirees – Helen Mirren (Elizabeth), Pierce Brosnan (Ron), Ben Kingsley (Ibrahim), Celia Imrie (Joyce) – who crack cold cases as a hobby until a real murder lands on their doorstep. It’s a delightful mix of mystery and intergenerational charm, with a stellar supporting cast including David Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Tom Ellis, Naomi Ackie and more.

Eddington

Ari Aster swaps folk horror for a satirical, pandemic-era neo-western set in small-town New Mexico. Joaquin Phoenix is the sheriff; Pedro Pascal is the mayor. Their stand-off in May 2020 sparks a community powder keg as paranoia, politics and personal ambition collide. It is stacked with a starry ensemble – including Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes – and was shot by Darius Khondji, which can only mean striking visuals. Aster’s signature blend of unease and absurdity drives the film, and this release is tipped for big wins come award season.

The Truth About Jussie Smollett?, Netflix

In 2019, Empire actor Jussie Smollett claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in Chicago. What followed was one of the most bizarre Hollywood scandals in years: accusations of a hoax, a short prison sentence and in 2024, his eventual exoneration. This new Netflix documentary revisits the story with fresh eyes, featuring interviews with lawyers, police and Smollett himself. From the makers of Don’t F**k With Cats, it promises new revelations and plenty of controversy.
