What To Watch This Week 16.09.25

Whether you fancy a trip to the cinema or want a series to get stuck into, SheerLuxe’s pick of the best films and TV will see you through the week.

WEDNESDAY

Gen V, Amazon Prime

The students of Godolkin University are back – and this term looks darker than ever. Gen V returns for its highly anticipated second season, picking up straight after the explosive finale of The Boys season four. With Homelander enforcing a terrifying new regime and the university transformed into a military training ground, chaos is guaranteed. Expect shocking twists, morally dubious alliances and familiar faces from the main series, as young supes are pushed to their limits. Following the tragic loss of actor Chance Perdomo, the storyline has been carefully re-worked to honour his character while keeping the drama dialled up. The first three episodes drop this week, before rolling out weekly through October.

Gen V

The Morning Show, Apple TV

After a two-year hiatus, Apple’s glossy newsroom drama returns with Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Jon Hamm leading the charge. The network has merged and rebranded as UBN but whispers of a cover-up at its former parent company threaten to unravel loyalties. In an era when deepfakes muddy the waters and conspiracies spread faster than headlines, who’s controlling the narrative?

Next Gen Chef, Netflix

Netflix is here to lift the lid on the CIA – the Culinary Institute of America, not to be confused with the Central Intelligence Agency, although just as high-pressure. A total of 21 rising talents – including chefs who’ve clocked up time in Michelin-starred kitchens – will battle it out for a life-changing $500,000 prize. With the pressure dialled up, camaraderie is scarce and rivalries fierce, making this feel closer to boot camp than Bake Off.

Black Rabbit

THURSDAY

Black Rabbit, Netflix

Jude Law and Jason Bateman lead this stylish new limited series that dives into New York’s shadowy underworld. Law plays Jake, a once-successful restaurateur trying to hold his life together, while Bateman stars as his unpredictable brother Vince, whose return drags Jake into a dangerous world of crime and corruption. Created by King Richard writer Zach Baylin, Black Rabbit is equal parts gritty family drama and tense thriller, exploring brotherly loyalty and betrayal against a backdrop of late-night Manhattan.

A Big Bold Beautiful Life

FRIDAY

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell team up for one of the autumn’s most enchanting releases. Written by Seth Reiss (The Menu) and directed by Kogonada (After Yang), A Big Bold Beautiful Journey follows two strangers thrown together on an unexpected road trip that becomes part romantic odyssey, part fantastical adventure. Guided by a mysterious GPS and propelled by chance encounters, the pair are given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rewrite their pasts – and maybe their futures, too. With an evocative score by Joe Hisaishi and supporting roles from Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Kevin Kline, this is a film designed to sweep you up and carry you away.

Happyend

For something more contemplative, Japanese director Neo Sora’s Happyend offers a quietly powerful counterpoint to the week’s big releases. Set in a near-future Tokyo bracing for a devastating earthquake, the story follows two rebellious students whose mischievous prank sparks a chain reaction that exposes the fragile balance between youth, authority and state surveillance. What begins as a coming-of-age tale quickly evolves into a sharp meditation on freedom, fear and the choices that define us in uncertain times. Shot with moody, atmospheric precision, it’s both intimate and eerily prescient.
