WEDNESDAY
Loot, Apple TV+
Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) is back as Molly Wells – the billionaire with a big heart and even bigger problems. Season two of Loot sees Molly’s attempts to give away her obscene fortune rubbing the world’s richest the wrong way – and sending her on a fabulously awkward trip to the UK, where old money meets new money in a clash of egos and etiquette. Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Severance) returns as her insufferably smug ex-husband John, ensuring the sparks – and the cringe – fly once again

FRIDAY
Frankenstein
January saw the release of Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu. Now its Gothic horror companion Frankenstein is set to arrive. Directed by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) it stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, a scientist tortured by ambition, and man-of-the-moment Jacob Elordi as his monster (getting his ‘Gothic novel adaptation’ practice before starring as Heathcliff in next year’s Wuthering Heights remake). The film also stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Charles Dance.

Good Fortune
Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) is swapping his assassin’s suit for angel wings in Good Fortune – a sharp, heartfelt comedy marking Aziz Ansari’s (Master of None) feature directorial debut. Reeves plays Gabriel, an overzealous celestial being with a knack for making things worse, who decides to intervene in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a self-satisfied tech bro (Seth Rogen, Superbad). Expect dry wit, divine mishaps, and the kind of moral messiness that makes Ansari’s work so distinct. With a supporting cast that includes Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Keke Palmer (Nope), and Sherry Cola (Joy Ride), this is a comedy with a surprisingly big heart.

Roofman
Only in America could a man rob McDonald’s through the ceiling – and become a legend for it. Roofman tells the astonishing true story of Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum, Magic Mike), a charming ex-soldier who pulls off a string of rooftop heists before hiding out – for six whole months – inside a Toys “R” Us. When he falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst, Marie Antoinette), a local single mum, his secret life starts to collapse around him. Stylish, suspenseful and laced with dark humour, this stranger-than-fiction drama is part heist movie, part tragic love story – and Tatum’s most intriguing role in years.

The Black Phone 2
The phone is ringing again – and the horror’s only getting louder. Ethan Hawke (Before Sunrise, Sinister) returns as the masked killer in The Black Phone 2, the chilling sequel to the 2021 breakout hit. Set in 1982, the film finds Finney Blake (Mason Thames, The Black Phone) still haunted by his kidnapping, while his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw, Ant-Man and the Wasp) begins to experience terrifying visions of dead children – and a phone that won’t stop calling. With Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) back in the director’s chair, this sequel promises the same unnerving atmosphere – but with even higher emotional stakes.

Ballad Of A Small Player
If you like your thrillers smart, seductive and a little existential, Ballad of a Small Player is the one to watch. Edward Berger (All Quiet On The Western Front) directs Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) as Lord Doyle, a washed-up con man gambling his way through Macau’s neon-lit casinos, where luck and fate blur dangerously. Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) co-stars in a performance that’s as enigmatic as the story itself. Based on Lawrence Osborne’s 2014 novel, the film is a haunting meditation on chance, identity and self-destruction, and a stylish descent into the shimmer and shadow of high-stakes living.
