The Best Places To Drink In Barcelona

Because Catalans don’t even think about dinner until 9pm, they like their bars to stay open late – the clement weather means you’ll see locals shooting the breeze outside until the small hours. Traditionally, it might be a glass of vermouth or sangria they’d have in hand. These days, there are also natural wines and world-class cocktails to think about…

Sips

Two mixology heavyweights, Simone Caporale and Marc Álvarez, are behind this atmospheric, unpretentious spot in Eixample which was named World’s Best Bar in 2023. Head to the ‘Eccentric’ section of the menu to explore drinks like the Blanc, made with Brandy Torres 15, pine nuts, raisins and freeze-dried spinach. You can play safer with elevated classics like palomas, margaritas and a next-level espresso martini.

Bar Brutal

Set across two buildings connected by an off-licence, Bar Brutal has been serving locals for over ten years. From the same team behind the Cuvée 3000 bottle shop, it has a wide selection of natural, organic and low intervention wines from small European producers. There’s also a short cocktail list and some nice kombuchas on offer. Poble Sec restaurant Xemei takes care of the food with tapas dishes and cheeseboards.

Paradiso

You’ll need to find a fridge door in a deli in El Born to access this slick cocktail bar. A regular on World’s Best Bar lists, Paradiso has a cool speakeasy vibe. Everything’s centred around a golden bar where mixologists serve drinks with a hint of theatre – think martinis emerging from frozen ice, highballs concealed in boxes, and on-fire negronis.
