The Modern Members' Club To Know

Once considered a bit old school, members' clubs have had a makeover and are now just as likely to have a spa, a restaurant and a fully equipped gym as a cigar room. Pavilion is the latest name to know in the capital – and here’s why you should lock in your membership for 2024.

What It’s All About

A Pavilion membership unlocks exclusive access to three distinct club venues across central London: Knightsbridge, City and Kensington. Opened in 2021, the Knightsbridge location is set in the Grade II-listed former Danish Club, originally built in 1884 for the London & Country Bank. And while it now has all the modern amenities you could need, it also manages to hold onto that old world glamour.

Membership benefits extend to all three Pavilion locations, including the City and Kensington branches. The former has Cannon Street right next door, making it perfect for an after-work drop in. From the eighth-floor members' lounge and rooftop terrace, you get a near-panoramic view over the city skyline. Plus, it has a handy bike store in the basement, private business lounges, meeting rooms – great for meeting with clients – and quirky rooftop pods that are ideal for upgrading your WFH days.

Luxe and grand, the Kensington location is exactly what you’d expect from one of London’s premium postcodes. There are two spacious business lounges, private meeting rooms and room service to all the private offices. Plus, The Ivy Kensington is right on the ground floor. Across these three boltholes spread over the city, the vibe is unstuffy, relaxed and convivial. And while the membership is discerning, it's a club that is welcoming and full of free-spirited individuals.

Why We Rate It

Our pick of the three is the Knightsbridge location, which recently set the scene for a SheerLuxe reader event with Jo Good and Nadine Baggott. Spanning six floors, the property has a serviced club and members' lounge, two bars, 17 private office spaces, and a luxurious penthouse suite. The interiors are crafted by Russell Sage Studio – the same team behind The Zetter Townhouse in Clerkenwell and The Fife Arms in Braemar, Scotland. It gives off an art deco ambience that makes the on-site bar feel like a private speakeasy.

On the ground floor, there is a 360° centrepiece bar that’s well stocked and well staffed. On the third floor, overlooking Hyde Park, there is a lush al-fresco drinking and dining space that’s great for everything from a business meeting to date night to a meal with friends.

In addition to its top-notch drinking and dining facilities, the Knightsbridge club boasts an expansive and meticulously planned events calendar. Ranging from comedy nights and live DJ performances to outdoor Pilates and yoga sessions, there's something to suit every member.

But it's not all play and no work. There are premium private office spaces across four floors, which have been taken up by a range of businesses. Plus, there are three premium meeting rooms equipped with cutting-edge video conferencing tech and presentation facilities, as well as climate control. These rooms can also be changed up to turn them into private dining rooms, if needed.

In the underground vaults of the old bank, the library is a tranquil spot for productive work. It features secluded booths, boosted super-fast wi-fi and two further meeting rooms.

The Benefits

Alongside exclusive 24-hour access to the three venues, there are plenty more perks to membership. Club members can enjoy meeting rooms and private hires at a discounted rate, as well as exclusive members-only wellness events, panel talks, live music and more. There are also special offers from external partners available to members – think Bamford Spa, 111Skin, Wilderness Reserve in Suffolk, The Mandarin Oriental Spa, Larry King and more.

Membership Options

Membership starts from £250 pcm (+VAT), with a £1,000 joining fee and a minimum 12-month term – rolling thereafter. There are also corporate membership options available, as well as discounted membership for under 35s.
