The location…
Ten minutes from Gare du Nord, this is the perfect spot for anyone looking to drop their bags and start exploring the city of love the moment they arrive. Set back from the bustling Grand Boulevard Poisseures, complete with a Métro stop, this central spot is ideal for those on a weekend city break – the opera house and various theatres and restaurants are all close by. Another bonus? SL fashion team favourite Sézane is just around the corner.

The sister hotel to Hotel Grand Pigalle in nearby Montmartre and The Henrietta in Covent Garden, Hotel des Grands Boulevards is the latest addition to the collective behind the Experimental Group. Featuring 50 bedrooms (many more than the group’s boutique sites), a restaurant and a rooftop terrace, the backdrop is inspired by building’s rich history, without falling into the clichéd Louis XVI style. Rather, its interiors seduce the senses, bridging the gap between romanticism and aristocracy, with a gentle nod to the mischievous.
The interiors…
Designed by Dorothée Meilichzon, the interiors were inspired by the French revolution. The aesthetic mixes the decorative pomp of the ‘Grand Siècle’– think 19th-century-style draped curtains, canopy beds, glass cupboards and a plethora of red marble – with Marie Antoinette’s beloved pastoral look, which comes in the form of antique linens, lime-washed walls, rustic furniture and antique bronze accents.
We loved the 1960s-accented, sumptuous pink velvet décor of The Shell cocktail bar almost as much as the ‘Fortunella Sip’ we were served (Plymouth gin, Lusteau sweet vermouth, lemon juice, kumquat, elderflower cordial and tonic water).
The rooms…
We recommend booking the Junior Suite in the eaves for the most picturesque views over the Parisian cityscape. Decorated with pink velvet, dark walls and brass accents (right down to the plug sockets), all rooms feature a famous canopy bed, handmade in Brittany, each enveloped in linen cotton and satin 300 thread-count sheets.
Don’t forget to take a peek inside the minibar for a special homemade liquid treat from the bar downstairs…
The food…
On the ground floor, in a beautiful courtyard at the centre of the hotel, guests can discover the Grand Restaurant. The menu, devised in collaboration with renowned Parisian chef, Giovanni Passerini, revisits the great classics of French-Italian country cooking.
Highlights include charred beetroot with Fourme d’Ambert, radicchio and dried fruit; gnocchi with lamb ragout, mint and pecorino; pumpkin ravioli with bergamot and brown butter; followed by chocolate tart with cereal ice-cream (a revelation).
