Arcade Food Hall

For Casual Meet-Ups

Restaurant group JKS now has two Arcade Food Hall outposts in London – Tottenham Court Road and Battersea Power Station – which bring together some of the capital’s best-loved names, creating an atmospheric space with open kitchens, chef’s tables and canteen-style seating. Battersea Power Station accepts group bookings of up to 18 people. Choose from shawarma and other Middle Eastern doses from Shatta & Toum; burgers and American diner-style food at Manna; Japanese sushi and omakase experiences from Sushi Kamon; and Thomas Straker’s signature flatbreads. Everyone in the group can order something different, and diners can scan QR codes to order and pay, so you don’t have to worry about splitting the bill at the end of the night.

Hawksmoor

For Steak & Chips

We know SL readers love Hawksmoor – you voted it the second-best place for a Sunday roast in our 2023 London Restaurant & Bar Awards. At numerous sites across the city, it offers a welcoming, industrial-chic atmosphere perfect for group gatherings. The menu features prime cuts of British beef, charcoal-grilled to perfection, along with indulgent sides like triple-cooked chips and creamy mac ’n’ cheese. For larger groups, there are sharing options, including impressive steak and seafood platters, as well as group Christmas menus with a festive twist. We can’t think of anyone who would turn down steak and chips followed by sticky toffee pudding at this time of year…

Trullo

For Long Lunches

If you're looking for elevated dining within the lively atmosphere of the main restaurant, try Trullo. One of our favourite options on this list, it accepts bookings of up to ten people at its upstairs dining room. The sister restaurant to super-popular Padella, Trullo’s simple, chic interiors make it an oasis of good taste, but the food is the real star. Expect fresh pasta rolled to order, and the intoxicating smells of fish and meat cooked over burning coals. The menu changes every day, making it hard to pick a handful of go-to dishes, but right now we’d go for pear, radicchio and walnuts salad; pappardelle with beef shin ragu; and ricotta doughnuts with custard and blackcurrant.

Casa Do Frango

For Crowd-Pleasing Dishes

If you’ve got fussy eaters in your group, Casa Do Frango is a great choice. With central sites in Piccadilly, London Bridge and Victoria, the chain serves Algarvian-style ‘frango’ chicken, which is cooked over wood charcoal. The result is extra tender (and extra flavourful) half joints of chicken. Its counter-top seats and long communal tables make for a lively spot to enjoy Portuguese starters, ranging from grilled whole chorizo with black olive mayo to grilled prawns served with white wine and parsley. The gazpacho is a garlic-laden must-order, while pitchers of port and tonic or ice-cool bottles of vinho verde complete the Lisbon-inspired vibe.

Dishoom

For A Curry

You don’t need us to tell you that Dishoom does a great curry, but did you know its Shoreditch restaurant accepts group bookings of up to 25? Large tables can enjoy dishes from the ‘Group Feast’ menus (available for veggies, and meat-eaters) for lunch or dinner. The main dinner menu features the group’s best dishes including keema pau, okra fries, grilled chicken tikka, lamb kababs, biryani, chicken ruby murray and black daal – all served with roti, raita and naan, and followed by sweet kulfi lollies.

The Laundry

For A Great Sunday Roast

The Laundry on Coldharbour Lane is a buzzy bistro that we think does one of the best Sunday roasts in the capital. Owner Mel and her team create a friendly atmosphere. Its lower ground floor has two spaces: La Table de Carmen and the Drying Room, seating up to 20 and 14 guests respectively. Combine the spaces to seat up to 34. You don’t have to pay for room hire – all you need to cover is the set menu which costs £35pp. This includes nibbles (olives and warm baguette with whipped butter), a main course, and signature tiramisu for dessert. You can pre-order drinks or wines and bring your own cake at no extra cost.

Albert’s Schloss

For Beer & Fondue

Manchester’s Alpine-themed beer and food hall Albert’s Schloss opened an outpost on Shaftesbury Avenue in spring. The 600-cover venue is set across two floors with five bars, a stage for live entertainment and a beer palace. Gather in the main dining room to feast on Bavarian-inspired classics from breakfast through to dinner. Menu highlights include chilli pork belly with sauerkraut; pork and beef meatballs; and chicken schnitzel served with salsa verde, aioli and herby new potatoes. Groups can also share fondue and a signature ‘Bavarian Feast’ of roast pork, schnitzel, bratwurst, chilliwurst, braised red cabbage, charred broccoli, bier jus, pickles and more.

Brunswick House

For A Special Occasion

With its atmospheric interiors and ever-changing menu, Jackson and Frank Boxer’s Brunswick House is perfect for special occasions. It’s home to a private dining room in the basement vaults, but large groups can also eat in the main dining room beneath its draped fabrics, candelabras and chandeliers. The weekly changing dinner menu showcases the best British seasonal ingredients. Think beef tartare, followed by roasted cod with Brussel sprouts, and Guinness and hazelnut cake with malt milk ice-cream.

Brasserie Zédel

For French Classics

Regular readers will know the SheerLuxe lifestyle team wax lyrical about Brasserie Zédel’s fun atmosphere and unbeatable prices. The French favourite offers traditional Gallic dishes in beautiful art-deco surroundings (it’s been described by Pierre Koffman as “the only real brasserie in London”). Groups can do à la carte or choose the affordable set menu, which allows you to tuck into a carrot salad, followed by steak haché with French fries and pepper sauce for £16.95. Beyond the cassoulet and escargot, there are cracking cocktails to be had in Bar Américain, and live music in cabaret bar Crazy Coqs.
