The New

According to ticketing platform Eventbrite, more than 2 million Brits over the age of 45 go out clubbing every single week. So for this week’s playlist, we enlisted the help of Kiss FM legend Gordon Mac to take it back to the old school. As we all know, a good playlist is comprised of the new, the old, and the classic. But for those who are a little older, the newies can be what gets you off the dancefloor. Luckily, Gordon’s new tracks will keep even the staunchest classics fans from taking to the side lines. The first on there? ‘Boasty’ by Wiley, Stefflon Don and Sean Paul, featuring Idris Elba – “The Godfather of Grime, Wiley has knocked it out the park with this one,” Gordon says. “Despite being released earlier this year, it’s still going to be one of the biggest summer hits. When you hear it, it’s just impossible not to dance.”

Also on the list is Lukas Setto’s ‘OMG’, which has a gorgeous 70s retro soul vibe to it, which’ll keep everyone happy. “After Lukas dropped his debut hit ‘What turns You On’, I knew he had something special! OMG is the follow up – and trust me, it’s well worth a listen. Setto is one of the freshest new artists on the soul scene right now.”

The Old

According to new data from Eventbrite, 39 is the age at which most Brits think you become officially too old to go clubbing – yet, Gordon explains the party scene for the over 40s is thriving, with millions heading out each week to get their fix of old school classics, like Gordon’s personal favourite, ‘Woman of the World’ by Marvin Gaye: “How could I not include a bit of Marvin Gaye?!” He said. “For me, he’s one of the greatest soul artists to have ever lived, and this special track is one of my favourites.”
Plus, for a new twist on a golden oldie, Gordon’s gone for the FJK remix of William Devaughn’s ‘Be Thankful For What You Got’ – “A funky and unique remix of a 70s R&B hit, this is the perfect sundowners track that you can just kickback to and ease yourself into the weekend. Love it.”

The Classics

You know when Gordon gets onto classics, they’re going to be the best of the best. And he doesn’t disappoint, kicking off with a touch of ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell – because how could you not? “There’s a certain energy that fills a room when a song like this comes on,” he says. “When I look out across a dancefloor and everyone is reciting every single word – it’s probably one of my favourite moments.”
 
Then with a slight change of pace comes ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ by The Rolling Stones, with it’s infectious lyrics that practically beg for a sing-a-long. “I remember reading a story that the ‘woo woo’s were added after Keith Richard’s girlfriend did it during a take and the Stones liked how it sounded. I can’t imagine it any other way, makes the song everything it is.”
 
And to wind up the night? You can’t go wrong with a bit of Billy Joel, Gordon concludes: “A perfect song to wrap up the night! I love finishing my set with this one it really sets the vibe”
