The New Glow-Giving Serum We Love
CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KATE SOMERVILLE
Here’s everything you need to know about the new beauty hero…
THE BACKGROUND
The new launch hit shelves state-side earlier this year thanks to celebrity facialist-turned-skincare brand founder Kate Somerville, who counts Meghan Markle, Elizabeth Olsen and Anna Kendrick among some of her clients.
WHAT MAKES IT SO SPECIAL
Well firstly, it’s not a serum – it’s a super serum. Like using two high-end products in one, not only does it harness the firming, retexturing, line-reducing power of retinol – the gold-standard of anti-aging ingredients – but antioxidant-rich vitamin C too, which works to brighten and even out skin tone. It’s not just any old vitamin C either, but L-ascorbic acid (100% vitamin C for maximum efficacy), wrapped in volcanic soil from Jeju Island in South Korea, which helps to keep it stabilised without needing to be stored in the fridge. It’s also packed with vegetal extract from the physalis angulate plant, which both helps protect skin’s collagen and elastin from the damaging effects of infrared and visible light, and provides a soothing effect to help protect from any potential sensitivity to retinol or vitamin C.
WHO CAN USE IT
Because the serum is so protective thanks to its hardworking ingredients, even those with sensitive skin can use it. In fact, the +Retinol Vita C Power Serum is gentle enough to be used nightly – meaning you’ll get smoother, more radiant skin even quicker. Retinol is particularly important in fighting the signs of ageing. "I have all of my clients over the age of 30 use Retinol two to three times per week," Kate explains, "It's one of the most important ingredients available to us."
HOW IT’S USED
The potent formula only needs to be used once a day. In the PM, apply a thin, even layer to the face and neck. It can be used alone but works particularly well with one of Kate’s moisturisers – we rate the Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream for dull and thirsty winter skin.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SPF
UV rays and other environmental stressors cause the release of free radicals and it is these that lead to the signs of aging. Vitamin C neutralises them, making Vit C and SPF a winning beauty combo. Retinol, however, can make skin more sensitive to sunlight, meaning using a good SPF in the morning after the serum is important.
WHO’S ALREADY A FAN
The brand’s latest release already counts a few famous faces as fans, including Victoria’s Secret model Shanina Shaik, actress Lucy Hale and influencer Jordyn Woods.
