Skin Solutions: Melanie Grant

When A-listers like Victoria Beckham need their skin to look their best, they turn to London-based facialist Melanie Grant. So naturally, we were curious to find out which skincare products, ingredients and rules she lives by herself…

The Skincare Step I’d Never Skip…

Daily application of a broad-spectrum SPF. It’s the most important step for preserving skin health. UV exposure breaks down collagen and elastin, exacerbates pigmentation and significantly increases the risk of skin cancer. I always say if it’s the only thing that you do, wear sunscreen every day, no matter the weather. An ounce of prevention, really is worth a pound of cure when it comes to your skin.

My Most Underrated Skincare Ingredient…

Niacinamide is a powerful anti-inflammatory and excellent for calming redness and irritation – it is a real hero for anyone with sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. It bolsters the skin’s barrier function, regulates sebum production and reduces hyperpigmentation. Plus, it’s well-tolerated by almost all skin types.

My Ride-Or-Dies…

Every evening, I double cleanse with my Victoria Beckham Beauty The Daily Cleansing Protocol. A facial-grade cleanse at home, it’s the best, without question. I also love Eighth Day Regenerative serum – I often use it morning and night when I'm travelling. Another must is the Auteur Retinol Serum. Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream is a long-time favourite, especially for cooler months or before bed. For comfort and radiance, I swear by Chanel Sublimage La Crème Texture Suprême. Finally, my SPF of choice is by Auteur. The non-greasy, elegant formula sits well under make-up and offers broad-spectrum protection – ideal for daily wear.

A Myth I Always Ignore…

More is not always merrier when it comes to skincare. This idea that an extensive, multi-step routine brimming with multiple actives will yield superior results often leads to over-exfoliation, ingredient incompatibility and a compromised skin barrier. A simpler, well-edited routine with a few quality, strategically chosen actives, applied consistently and correctly, always delivers better results.

The In-Clinic Treatment I Recommed…

I’m a huge fan of the Candela PicoWay laser. Its light-based, ultra-short pulse technology allows for precise treatment without significant heat, making it effective and safe for all skin tones, even those prone to hormonal pigmentation. I often use this laser to treat sun damage, pigmentation, melasma and textural irregularities such as acne scarring, deeper lines and large pores.

One Affordable Buy I Rate…

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water is an exceptional first cleanse, especially for dissolving make-up and impurities without stripping the skin. Its gentle, non-irritating formula makes it suitable for even the most sensitive or reactive skin types – I’m never without it. You don't need luxury skincare to achieve great skin. You’d be surprised at how effective it is to simply keep your skin clean, hydrated and protected from the sun.

My Golden Rule…

When introducing potent actives into your routine, start low and go slow. Begin with the lowest available concentration and apply it two to three times a week. Gradually increase the frequency and then concentration only as your skin shows complete tolerance. Also, only introduce one new active ingredient product every four weeks. This allows you to accurately gauge your skin’s response and identify any potential irritants.

The Skincare Gadgets I Swear By…

A quality gua sha tool, paired with a nourishing facial oil, is great for promoting lymphatic drainage, reducing puffiness, releasing facial tension and sculpting natural contours. For a high-tech investment, a quality LED Light Therapy mask – such as those by The Light Salon or Déesse – is invaluable. LED is clinically proven to reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen, accelerate healing, and boost overall cellular health without any downtime.

One Throwback Product I Still Love…

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Moisturiser stands the test of time. Its rich, nourishing formula provides deep hydration and barrier support, making it an excellent primer, moisturiser or even a calming mask. It’s a true multi-tasker and has been a favourite of mine for years.

The Lifestyle Factor That Makes All The Difference…

I’m a huge believer in an anti-inflammatory, nutrient-rich diet. Our skin is a direct reflection of our internal health and systemic inflammation, often driven by diet, can manifest as breakouts, redness, and dullness. Prioritising whole, unprocessed foods, colourful, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, healthy fats – like Omega-3s from oily fish and avocados – and lean proteins provides the nutrients the skin needs to thrive.
