The Beauty Insider: Beauty Products That Have Stood The Test Of Time
This has been one of my favourite columns to write for Sheerluxe. The history of beauty is always fascinating, and for this piece, I reached out to my Instagram page. The question? What one beauty product do you think of as an icon. The answers? Well, they are below. These brilliant buys had a huge amount of fans and the reasons are clear.
Chanel No5 Perfume, £79
Nearly 100 years after its launch and this is arguably still the most iconic perfume out there. Chanel sought a scent that would celebrate and liberate the feminine spirit of the 1920s and today, this fragrance is still relevant and loved after all this time. I mean, is there anything more luxurious than having a bottle of No5 on your dressing table?

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, £15.50
Introduced to the market in 1995, this was one of the first products invented by Liz Earle. Cleanse and Polish is a constant in many bathroom cabinets, including mine. Great for all ages and all skin types, its cream and cloth combo have become iconic in the world of skincare.

Elemis Marine Cream, £85
This hydrating day cream has millions of loyal fans. For me, it’s the texture that really stands out. Its lightweight, gel base is intensely hydrating and it’s one of those products that you become addicted to because of the results you see.

Elizabeth Arden 8-hour Cream, £28
Elizabeth Arden was a real powerhouse and empowered so many women - the suffragettes included. In 1912, she was out on the streets handing out red lipstick to these incredible women on the front line, fighting for our rights. Her 8-hour cream came into production in 1930 and the multi-purpose balm has truly stood the test of time. It’s one of the products my Grandma couldn’t live without, and neither can I.

Elnett Hairspray, From £2.60
Before this icon appeared on the scene in 1960, hair products were gooey and pretty intense. Elnett was the first hair product that could be brushed through to create style and hold. The packaging has pretty much stayed the same over the past 59 years which says a lot in itself.

Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer, £26
When you think bronzer, you think Hoola. This baby was launched in 2001 and was one of the first bronzers with a complete matte finish and a non-red undertone. It’s as popular today as it was when it first went on sale thanks to the healthy glow it adds to your complexion.

NARS Orgasm Blush, £25
A true authority in blush, Orgasm has just celebrated its 20th anniversary. It’s not only the name that makes it stand out – the universal shade is super flattering and immediately adds a healthy glow to any complexion.

MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick, £17.50
Officially one of the best-selling lipsticks of all time, this classic cherry red is a beauty. Launched in 1999, it’s been the reigning Queen of lipsticks ever since. Whatever your skin tone or lip colour, Ruby Woo looks incredible on everyone. A bold statement that is completely true.

Kiehl's Creme de Corps, £28
Kiehl's has been going strong since 1851 - that’s 168 years! Creme de Corps is one of the brand’s oldest products and its best-seller. It’s been moisturising people’s skin for decades, so of course it had to be in the line-up.

Rosebud Salve, £10
125 years ago, the people of Maryland requested an all-purpose salve, and because of that, this hero product was created. After all these years, it’s still a staple in many make-up bags, and even has a place in the archives in the National Museum of American history.
