SL Readers' Favourite Lipsticks

We asked, you answered. Starting from just £3.50, here are 13 of the best lipsticks out there, according to SL readers…
01

BareMinerals BAREPRO Longwear Lipstick in Raspberry, £20

The first long-wear, vegan lipstick, BareMinerals full-colour formula is as conditioning as it is impactful. It comes in classic shades like Cranberry (a rich red) and Spice (a soft neutral), but Raspberry is popular for being a little bit different. One quick coat, and you’re good to go.

Available at: Bareminerals

02

Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Sandwash Pink, £24.50

Creamy with a semi-matte dry down, this Bobbi Brown colour offers a wash of pinkish-brown that compliments all skin types, especially those with fairer complexions. It’s also loved by a host of A-listers, including Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.

03

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Colour in Boy 54, £31

For those who prefer a balm-like finish, this buttery lipstick melts onto the lips, delivering a transparent and shiny hint of colour. It can be layered up for fuller pigment, or swiped on fast for a glossy finish that’s beautiful for daytime. While this neutral was an SL reader favourite, there are a further 26 other shades in the range to choose from.

04

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in Pillow Talk, £25

Considered the ultimate nude lipstick, this instant classic has a warm, rosy-beige undertone and a soft matte finish that makes lips look plump and smooth. Celebrities and industry experts agree it’s the one nude everyone should own.

05

Hourglass Lip Treatment Oil in Bare, £45

We’re yet to find anyone who’s been disappointed by this product. The oils feel cushiony upon application, while the colour clings to lips with a pretty, light-reflective sheen. We love the shade Nocturnal for a deeper red, but we can see why readers voted for Bare – a peachy pink that looks like you’ve made an effort, but with minimal fuss.

Available at: Hourglass

06

Kiko Instant Colour Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Brick Red, £5.59

Kiko’s formula wears like a dream, with a wide collection of colours available for all skin tones. This brick red earns consistently good reviews, and combines the application and saturation of a liquid with the comfort of a traditional bullet. Despite drying down to an immovable matte finish, it never looks flaky or dry.

07

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Matte Lipstick in Erotique, £7.99

One for those who love a matte finish, this suits-all nude from L’Oréal in Erotique is a best-seller thanks to its high-intensity pigment. The affordable price point is a bonus, too.

08

Laura Geller Iconic Baked Lipstick in Broadway Plum, £13

With true to colour shades, Laura Geller’s range always comes highly recommended. Each of these lipsticks provide full-coverage in one swipe, and dry down to an immovable matte while still feeling soft and flexible. This rich plum is a fan favourite, and great for night time.

09

Laura Mercier Velour Extreme in Power, £24.50

Like a twist-up eyeshadow stick for lips, Laura Mercier’s pencils are great for sculpting and delivering deep colour that lasts. This was the stand-out shade for SL readers – a pretty fuchsia that looks beautiful when applied from the bullet, or when pushed into the lips with fingers for a more diffused look.

10

MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy, £17.50

This earned rave reviews for its neutral, peach tone that works beautifully for everyday. Despite being matte, the finish still gives a healthy, hydrated finish, and can be layered up for full opacity, for those wanting a richer tone.

Available at: MAC

11

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in Bewitching Coral, £8.99

This pretty coral is a staple in many make-up artist kits thanks to its tenacious staying power. Formulated with shea butter and avocado oils, it feels and looks hydrating – expect a sheer finish that still shows off the pigment, without looking too strong or harsh.

12

No7 Moisture Drench Lipstick in Soft Cherry, £10

Loved by readers for its velvet texture, this one from No7 is easy to apply, with a sheer, hydrating formula. It’s available in 35 classic colours, but this pretty pink came up trumps for SL readers – it’s great for fairer skin tones thanks to the lighter undertone, too.

NYX Smooth Matte Lipstick in Crave, £3.50 (was £7)

With across-the-board five-star ratings, it’s no surprise one of NYX’s cult lipsticks made the cut. SL readers said it was smooth, creamy and long-lasting, without feeling dry or tight. Expect strong pigment that melts into the lips, depositing colour that can be built up for day or night.
