Here’s How To Get The Most Out Of Your Bronzer

Choose A Creamy Texture
A lot of bronzers can be powdery, which often results in an unflattering, grey finish. Fenty’s new Sun Stalk’r however is creamy with pigment that’s smooth and silky, so they’re easy to blend. They’re also completely matte, so you can add natural warmth to your skin without a shimmer finish, which can often be ageing. Another bonus is a little goes a very long way and the payoff is richer than most bronzers, so you really get bang for your buck.
Find The Right Shade
A general rule is to choose a bronzer one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone – anything more will look artificial. If you’re opting for a Fenty bronzer and are relatively fair, look to shades India Sun and Shady Biz, both are a great option and make for a good entry point to bronzer if you’re a novice. For those with an olive complexion, shades Private Island and I$land Ting are very flattering. Deeper tones should look to Coco Naughty and Mocha Mami, they give warmth, dimension and definition like nothing I’ve ever used before.
Dust It All Over
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to where bronzer should be worn. I recommend applying it so that it’s complimentary to your face shape. For me personally, I love to use a dusting under my jawline and across my nose and chin to give my face a naturally sun-kissed look. I even recommend a little on the eyes – it just brings the look together and creates a really tonal finish. On Rihanna, we always start by creating dimension and contouring with my favourite product from the range, Match Stix. Then I use Sun Stalk’r to warm up her face and shade around it, down her temples and her forehead.
Don’t Go Overboard
A common mistake I always see is too much bronzer deposited on the cheeks. It’s best to go slow and light, subtly building up layers so it looks really natural. I like to use the Fenty Cheek-Hugging Bronzer Brush because the asymmetrical shape makes it easy to bronze the areas of your face where the sun would naturally hit. Rihanna loved the original Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush so much, she’s now created a larger version that applies bronzer seamlessly for perfect placement.
Switch It Up
I like switching up the shades I use and always have two on the go. I tend to go for deeper, darker bronzers to add depth and subtle definition, which is great for an evening look. For daytime though, keep a shade that’s close to your natural skin tone nearby, it’s just softer and wears better throughout the day.
