The Best New Beauty Buys For July

From lightweight skincare to covetable make-up perfect for summer, this month’s new beauty buys are as good as ever. Here’s what’s on our wish-list…

MUST-HAVE MAKE-UP:

L’Oreal Skin Paradise Tinted Water-Cream, £10.99

This sheer base has earned itself a permanent place in our make-up bags. Designed to improve hydration by more than 10%, it’s formulated with 70% water and aloe vera to keep moisture locked in. As for the tint, the coverage is impressive, with a dewy finish to give the complexion a healthy luminosity. While there’s only 10 shades in the range, each one adapts to your individual colouring. The addition of SPF20 is a huge bonus, too.

B.Bare Hero Brow Balm, £24

Sparse brows? Or wayward hairs? This new balm has been formulated to promote growth, but also keep your arches in uniform shape. Sweep a little through with a spoolie brush for best results and let the nourishing butters and oils (including mango butter and castor seed oil) work their magic. The clear balm is also great for enhancing darker brows that just need smoothing into place.

Patrick Ta Double-Take Cream + Powder Blush Duo, £30

Make-up artist Patrick Ta’s new products do not disappoint. Housed in a sleek, slim line compact, our latest obsession is this new glow-giving blush. Uniting a powder and a cream, you get the best of both for a dewy hint-of-tint that can be layered to increase intensity. Both formulas apply by melting into the skin for instant radiance, without the tell-tale chalky finish. A must-try for blush lovers.

Great for those on a budget.

SUMMER SKINCARE:

Balance Me PHA Clarifying Mist, £18

If your skin is looking dull, or you're suffering from breakouts, try this new mist. Formulated with PHAs (gentle exfoliators), a few spritzes will help rid pores of dirt and bacteria for brighter, smoother-looking skin. Added zinc also helps keep skin balanced by tackling irritation and minimising shine. Use it post-cleanse or on clean skin throughout the day. A true multi-tasker.

No wonder it remains one of Clinique’s best-selling products.

Darphin Hydraskin Cooling Hydrating Gel Mask, £34

Drunk Elephant E-Rase Milki Micellar Water, £24

Made up of impurity-catching surfactants and emollients, this silky formula helps to maintain the skin’s natural pH balance, and melts off all make-up in one quick sweep – with no need for pulling or tugging. Created with skin-plumping ceramides and a medley of nourishing oils, it keeps skin hydrated, while also promoting a youthful glow. It works on even the most stubborn formulas, including waterproof mascara and long-wear lipstick.

Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Oil-Infused Serum, £52

A first from Fresh, this oil-infused liquid serum is one of the best products we’ve tried this year. With just a few shakes, the two phases come together to deliver deep down hydration. Rose flower, camelina and squalane oils offer skin protection and nourishment simultaneously – just pat in with your fingers after cleansing, but before moisturiser. You’ll be surprised how quickly it sinks in with zero greasy residue. Expect to see a difference within days.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Priming Moisturiser in Golden, £92

The original Priming Moisturiser was a bestseller, and now it’s available with a bronzy tint for summer. Think of it as a moisturiser/primer hybrid that works to boost and renew skin over time, with Augustinus Bader’s cult TFC8 technology. In short, it works to activate the skin’s own regenerative process for visibly plumper results in as little as six weeks. Not to be missed.

No7 Advanced Retinol 1.5% Complex Night Concentrate, £34

This is No7’s first clinically-proven advanced retinol to reduce the appearance of fine lines, while also refining pores, increasing elasticity and improving collagen. But does it really work? A 12-week study says so, with results showing a significant improvement in the appearance of crow’s feet and hyperpigmentation. Other studies show the cream increases collagen by 55%. No wonder it has a 100k+ waitlist – sign yourself up, pronto.

NEXT-GEN NAILS:

Nails Inc 73% Plant Power Polishes, £9

Nails Inc have launched a new, plant-based line of polishes, designed with a recyclable cap and eight different shades. The formula is just as impressive: vegan and cruelty-free, it excludes 21 ingredients that are considered harmful – from formaldehydes to acetones and parabens – while the in-built AHAs gently exfoliate nails for a smoother finish. There’s a shade for everyone, but we love the rich, indigo blue, Spiritual Gangster.

FRESH FRAGRANCES:

Jo Loves Mango Thai Lime Fragrance, £70

This one-time limited edition zesty fragrance is back by popular demand, this time as a permanent member of the Jo Malone range. Inspired by Thailand, it features notes of mango, kaffir lime and black pepper for a truly unique scent that’s both heady and fresh. Just remember a little goes a long way – you’ll find a few spritzes on your wrist last all day (and night).

Maison Margiela Bubble Bath Fragrance, £98

If you love scents that remind you of freshly washed clothes, you’ll love Maison Margiela’s latest drop. A fragrance best described as ‘clean’, it’s full of chypre florals, bergamot and rose essence, while a hint of coconut and musk add extra depth. We love to spray a little on to our hair or wrists before bed – it may sound extravagant, but it’s so fresh and cosy.

SAVVY SPF:

Sarah Chapman Skin Insurance SPF50+, £59

Tinted SPF50s are hard to come by, which is exactly why Sarah Chapman created this new product. Formulated with optical blurring technology, adaptive tints and light-scattering particles, it lends a veil of perfecting coverage, while the broad-spectrum protection forms a barrier against both UV and HEV (blue light). With enough glow so you can wear it solo, you’ll find there’s no need for foundation.

Sun Bum SPF 50 Spray, £17.99

We love this new SPF brand, which has made its way over from California. Aiming to create formulas that are safe for everyone to use – especially children – the products are full of vitamin E to strengthen and protect, while the creams, sprays and blocks cover all individual protection needs. This spray is our favourite – by covering a wide surface area, it offers optimum protection. What’s more, the whole range is reef friendly, meaning they don’t bleach the corals. Plus, the coconut, banana scent is heaven.

CLEVER CLEANSING BALMS:

Sisley Oil Balm Cleanser & Eye Make-Up Remover, £88

Make-up, excess sebum and impurities don’t stand a chance against Sisley’s latest cleanser. Yes, it removes mascara and long-wear foundation, but it has impressive skin-boosting benefits, too. As you massage it in, the solid butter transforms into a silky oil, before lathering up into a milky emulsion full of plant-based butters to soften and soothe. Shea, babassu and macadamia oils come together to treat dry, sensitive skin, too.

Elemis are known for their cleansing balms, and their latest drop is no exception. With a unique butter-to-milk formula, it dissolves all make-up and surface grime but is still gentle enough to use on the eyes, too. Pumpkin and acerola cherry (which are naturally rich in AHAs) offer a gentle exfoliation for brighter and more radiant complexion over time, too. A real treat for both your skin and senses.
