The Beauty Insider: Lisa Potter Dixon’s Beauty Rules

It’s beginning to look a lot like… Okay, that may be a tad premature. But seriously, it’s getting chilly and the cold weather does no favours for our skin. So now’s the perfect time to reassess your skincare routine. Don’t feel like you have to change everything. Even just adjusting it slightly can make a huge difference. Here are some of my favourite products and tips for the winter months…

CLEANSE THE COLD AWAY

Double cleansing is always a must. As is using a flannel and splashing your face with cold water once your face is clean. I swear by that tip. I always tend to go for an oil-based cleanser, Firstly, I find it removes make-up quicker, particularly hard-working mascaras. And I love the way it makes mine and my clients’ skin feel. Here are my faves…

Pixi X Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse, £24

This product was created by people in the know: Pixi, an iconic, well-trusted beauty brand; and Caroline Hirons, the one and only Lady H, skincare guru to us all. This baby has a cream cleanser one side and an oil cleanser the other. Perfect for the ultimate double cleanse.

Chanel Ultimate Comfort & Radiance Revealing Gel-To-Oil Cleanser, £85

Oh my, as with anything Chanel, this cleanser is pure luxury. It gently cleanses and exfoliates your face, leaving you with a velvety, radiant complexion. How dreamy is that!

Neal’s Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm, £32

This one-pot wonder nourishes your skin as well as adding antioxidants and essential oils. It’s a cult classic that can be used as a cleanser or even kept on overnight.

HYDRATION STATION

Adding extra hydration to your skin is absolutely essential during the colder months. Our skin craves it and needs it more than ever at this time of year. These will help…

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra, £13.87

Although this formula is ultra-intense, it’s also very soothing. La Roche-Posay create products you can rely on and this moisturiser is excellent for boosting hydration.

Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisturiser, £60

When I first used this product, I couldn’t quite understand how it was so lightweight – because this product packs a punch when it comes to hydration. It’s non-greasy and can transform dehydrated skin in days.

Available at Lookfantastic.com

Hada Labo Super Hydrator, £15.95

I talk about this product a lot, but that’s because I love it. It has four hyaluronic acids in it, each reaching a different level of the skin. It adds an intense hydration that really makes a difference to your skin. Don’t be put off by its watery consistency – this beauty is magic. Use after cleansing, before moisturising.

FACE MASKS

How I love a lazy Sunday when it’s raining outside, the fire’s on and I’ve got a glass of fizz and a hydrating face mask. I haven’t even mentioned the roast dinner in the oven. More seriously, a Sunday face mask can revitalise your skin ready for the week ahead. These are my go-tos…

Seoulista Super Hydration Instant Facial, £7.99

Forever my favourite, mainly because it gives you hydration that lasts. It’s infused with 25ml of serum, which is a huge amount. To put that into perspective, most foundations are 30ml. Impressive.

Available at Boots.com

The Body Shop Youth Concentrate Sheet Mask, £5

If you haven’t bought anything thing from The Body Shop since Vanilla Musk was a thing, then you must visit one of its stores. It really is an eco-friendly, beauty haven. With reusable everything, it is at the forefront of sustainability. All of its masks are great, but I particularly like the Japanese matcha tea pollution-clearing mask. It literally sucks the daily commute out of your skin.

STEAMING

I love steaming my face. It’s simple, pretty much free, and effective. I usually fill a bowl with boiling water (obviously be super careful and use a heat-proof bowl) then add a couple of drops of essential oils, lean over the bowl with a towel over my head, and let the steam work its magic. I try and do this once a week to deep cleanse. I usually use a cleanser immediately after to get rid of the dirt. This always leaves my skin feeling incredible.

Wrap up warm and look after your skin – it’s important.
