8 Party-Ready Make-Up Looks For New Year’s Eve
Najiyah Imani, Beau Nelson
The Look: Disco Glitter
How To Create: Despite the full-on glitter and glow, this look still feels modern. It was created by make-up master Beau Nelson, who ran black kohl all around the lash line before blending a mix of both copper and gold eyeshadows over the lids. He then pressed Lemonhead’s LA self-adhering Spacepaste glitter on top for a multidimensional effect. Team this eye look with fresh skin, glowy cheeks and a warm nude lip, just like Beau did here.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Nam Vo
The Look: All-Around Glow
How To Create: Glow master Nam Vo created this glossy look for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and we couldn’t love it more. Ideal for those wanting to take a fresh approach on New Year’s Eve, but still intent on making a statement. To get the dewy base, Nam mixed Tom Ford’s Traceless Foundation Stick and Bobbi Brown’s Illuminating Moisture Balm together before buffing it into the skin with a BeautyBlender for an even finish. She then subtly contoured the cheeks with Chanel’s Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer, taking it from the corner of the mouth back up towards the ear. To finish off, cheeks were dusted with Rituel De Fille’s Rare Light Luminizer. As for Rosie’s brows, they were brushed up with Milk’s Kush Fiber Gel for full, defined arches.
Adria Arjona, Carola Gonzalez
The Look: Statement Lips
How To Create: Party make-up isn’t always about smokey eyes. Adria Arjona is here to prove it with this colourful pout, created by Carola Gonzalez using Chanel’s Poudre À Lèvres Lip Balm And Powder Duo in Rosso Pompeiano. Eyes were sculpted with a soft, black smokey kohl before Carola used Lashify’s False Lashes in B12 (currently only available in the US) for a fanned-out effect. You can recreate this with several layers of your favourite mascara, or by using a separating and lengthening formula like Hourglass’ Caution Extreme Mascara. If you’re a falsies fan, look to Sweed’s Nikki No Lash-Lashes for a similar look.
Margot Robbie, Pati Dubroff
The Look: Colour Play
How To Create: Want to play with colour in a low maintenance way? Look to Margot Robbie as inspiration. Pati Dubroff used Chanel’s Baume Stick and mixed it with a blue glitter to create a beautiful, creamy pigment – apply it with a thin eyeliner brush for strategic placement. It’s a great way of introducing something fun, without being too theatrical. Don’t panic if glitter falls down your face either; gently press some tape over the skin and simply lift off any glitter particles. As for the rest of the look, buff cheeks with cream blusher and load up the lashes with Chanel’s Le Volume Revolution Mascara.
Priyanka Chopra, Pati Dubroff
The Look: Gunmetal Smokey
How To Create: This glittery, grey smokey look is perfect for party season and was applied using Jill Stuart’s creamy shadows in Tender Memory and Pewter. We don’t have access to the brand in the UK, but you can create a similar effect using Trinny’s Eye2Eye Shade in Chalice and Marc Jacobs See-Quins Glam Glitter Shadow in Glitter Rock 96. While a heavy dose of glitter can be beautiful, it can also distort the shape of the eye, making it look strangely flat, so start by applying a shadow like Chalice, to provide an even base. Sweep it along the eye crease, then load on the Marc Jacobs shimmer with your finger to push the product into the skin. Keep lips pared back with a rosy pink, like Pati did here, and skip blush, using bronzer instead to enhance bone structure and keep dimension.
Karolina Kurkova, Kale Teter
The Look: Glam Rock Lids
How to Create: This smokey, sultry eye has the right balance of both heavy kohl and glossy shimmer – perfect for New Year’s Eve. Do a copycat version by running MAC’s Chunky Kajal Crayon in Flourish Me Deep on the inner corners of the eyes and over the lids, buffing it out with a brush for a smoked effect. To replicate the wet-look shimmer, sweep on Victoria Beckham’s Lid Lustre in Blonde, taking it right up to the middle of the eye socket for the same, eye-opening effect you can see here. Keep both lips and cheeks neutral, with just a hint of bronzer, but add a decent dose of thickening mascara to complete the look.
Gizele Oliveira, Sofia Schwarzkopf Tilbury
The Look: Rose Gold Tones
How To Create: If shimmer’s your thing , have a go at replicating Gizele Oliveira’s look. Created by Sofia Schwarzkopf Tilbury, she used a wash of Charlotte Tilbury’s Glowgasm palette all over the complexion to build a mega-watt glow, after creating even coverage with Hollywood Flawless Filter in shade five. For the eyes, Sofia used her finger to apply ‘Day’ and ‘Diva’ shades from Charlotte Tilbury’s cult Icons Palette, before tapping a rosy gold on top. Finally, skin was given a further radiance hit by the Glowgasm Beauty Light Wand, which was smattered over the cheeks, before being buffed in from the temples downwards.
Charlotte Lawrence, Tobi Make-Up
The Look: Midnight Eyes
How To Create: Take a cue from Charlotte Lawrence with a classic, blended smokey eye and ultra-contoured cheekbones. To copy it exactly, invest in a palette like Huda Beauty’s Obsession in Smokey, using the darkest shade all over the lids and slightly under the waterline, too, for the same lived-in look. Then, take the silvery colour and dot it into the corners of the eyes and on top of the lids to prevent it from looking too heavy. For extra definition, use a liner like NARS’ Long-Wear and run it along the lash line – both top and bottom. Finish by dusting cheeks with a rosy-toned colour, like Kevyn Aucoin’s Neo-Bronzer, to bring some gentle warmth to the skin.
