The Best Truffle Products On The Market
Sacla, Black Truffle Pesto, £2.50
Italian brand Sacla has been making pesto for generations, and its most recent launch centres on truffles. It’s a small jar, but the sauce packs a real punch and adds an earthy hit to pasta, rice and egg dishes. Add a couple of teaspoons to creme fraiche, fried mushrooms and parmesan to create a quick and flavoursome pasta sauce.
Savoursmiths, Truffle & Rosemary English Potato Crisps, £2.19
Cut from British potatoes, Savoursmiths make crisps with flamboyant flavours. This new launch pairs black Italian summer truffle with rosemary. The overriding taste might be rosemary and sea salt, but the hint of truffle still adds a touch of elegance. It pairs brilliantly with a glass of wine and – we suspect – goes down extremely well at parties.
Heinz, Truffle Mayonnaise, £2 (was £4)
One of those products that’s sure to divide opinion, this is a seriously rich and creamy mayonnaise, complete with truffle pieces. On opening the jar, you can smell the truffle straight away, and it’s strongly flavoured. Good in sandwiches and with steak and chips, we could also see this working well as an indulgent dip.
Urbani Tartufi, Mushroom in White Truffle Paste, £6.75
A great product if you’re short on time and need a hit of flavour, this is a small jar that goes a long way. We suggest mixing it into pasta, scrambled eggs and sautéed potatoes, or to strengthen the taste of mushroom-based dishes. It also makes a good base for crostini – great for entertaining.
Belazu, Truffle & Artichoke Pesto, £3.20
Belazu has fast become one of our favourite condiment brands, and this Italian black summer truffle pesto is no different. Featuring artichokes from Puglia and aged parmigiano reggiano, this sauce is an indulgent twist on the Italian classic. Spread on the base of a steak sandwich, stir into mashed potato or use as a salad dressing – it’s a truly versatile product.
Tyrrells, Black Truffle & Sea Salt Crisps, £1.25 (was £2.19)
We’ve always liked Tyrrells crisps, and these truffle and sea salt flavoured ones also hit the mark. Made from skin-on potatoes, the crisps are hand-cooked in small batches and spun to achieve that signature crunch. The truffle flavour may be a little too subtle for some, but we found them extremely moreish.
Truffle & Buffalo Milk Ricotta Cappellacci, Mattarello
Filled with creamy ricotta and a balanced flavour of truffle, this fresh pasta is made in Italy. Once cooked, just drain, toss with melted butter or a drizzle of good-quality olive oil and sprinkle with parmesan. Ideal to keep in the freezer for lazy, Sunday-night suppers.
Maille, Celeriac Black Truffle & White Wine Mustard, £6
Celebrated French mustard brand Maille is getting in on the truffle action with this nutty celeriac and white wine combination. A spoon of this will transform multiple dishes with its bold black truffle flavour, and it pairs particularly well with macaroni cheese, mashed potato, scrambled eggs and roast chicken.
Merchant Gourmet, Puglia Lentils With Truffle Oil, £2.09
These lentils have been cooked with truffle-flavoured extra virgin olive oil. Designed to be eaten hot or cold, they make a great accompaniment to beef and mushrooms. For a quick mid-week meal, try mixing the lentils with sautéed mushrooms, asparagus and halved cherry tomatoes, topped with steak and crumbled blue cheese.
Popcorn Shed, Mini Pop! White Truffle Popcorn, £0.89
This popcorn is fragrant and lightly salted. ‘Mini Pop’ is half the size of regular popcorn, meaning it’s easier to digest and won't get stuck in your teeth. On opening the bag, we got an instant hit of truffle but once we tasted it, we found it salty and buttery, rather than overly earthy.
Daylesford, Organic Mushroom & Truffle Soup, £4.49
This thick, velvety soup has earthy, woodland flavours of mushrooms and black truffle. Made with fresh mascarpone and a splash of cider, it tastes delicious with buttered sourdough. We think this is the brand’s best soup in the range and can imagine it cheering us up on a cold weekday evening.
Godminster Organic Truffle Cheddar, £6
This cheddar won gold at the International Cheese Awards 2019 – so you know it’s going to be good. A favourite of SL editor Georgie, this organic cheddar is matured for up to 12 months and is made with black truffles, hunted using a truffle hunter and hound. This rich cheese is the star of the show on any cheeseboard and works well as an extra-special ingredient in macaroni cheese and risottos.
