A Chic Founder Shares Her Interiors Little Black Book
I flit between favourite brands – I love Soho Home and Zara Home a lot but if I had to choose just one, I would probably go with Andrew Martin. It has the best selection of fabrics, wallpapers and furniture – so it’s the closest to a one-stop shop. The sofas are some of the comfiest I have ever found.
The most interesting interiors shop is Paolo Moschino. I love the prints and the luxurious, Bahamian feel of the brand. My interiors are not classically British – I love texture, pattern and nature. Its fabrics, specifically the bamboo prints, and natural pieces of furniture and lighting are the perfect way to bring a bit of sunshine into any space. There's always a great range of accessories too; you never know what you will find when you pop in for a browse.
The best department store in the world for homeware is Liberty. Its fabrics and prints are iconic and it has the best selection of niche interiors and accessories brands. Total heaven.
I love to see small, female-founded brands fly – like Alice Palmer, Rebecca Udall and Matilda Goad. As a female founder of my own brand, I know the hard work that goes on behind the scenes and these women all have wonderful style, so I love to support them. I launched my own British fine fragrance brand, GROVE England, last year. It’s such a joy seeing people explore our debut collection, Anemone. I wanted to create something elegant, beautiful and most importantly natural. Our pieces are vegan and cruelty free, free from parabens, sulphates and synthetic colours, and all consciously produced in small batches in England.
My perfect shopping day would include a sunny walk around London – specifically Belgravia and Chelsea. I would start the day browsing the interiors stores on Pimlico Road before heading down to Elizabeth Street to discover more beautiful niche brands and end with lunch at The Thomas Cubitt. I also love the Anya Café on Pont Street if I am meeting up with anyone for a coffee and a catch up.
My favourite vintage piece is a beautiful burr wood drinks cabinet that we discovered years ago at a Talisman ‘yard’ sale. It was a bargain and has moved with us four times now. It started my love affair with burr wood. I’m also totally obsessed with 1st Dibs. Obviously, vintage is better for the planet and it’s interesting to see how brands are evolving to become more sustainable – I love how Edward Bulmer is working hard to transform the world of paint.
The best interiors gift I’ve ever been given was a beautiful painting by Louise Howard. It has pride of place in our kitchen dining area and is such a showstopper. When I’m thinking about purchasing art, I look at Artfully Walls, which has recently come to the UK – there’s so much choice and you can preview the pieces in galleries too, which is helpful.
I love to take time to lay a good table, every day or when friends come round. I buy lots of tableware from Rebecca Udall and I also like Polkra x Anna Glover placemats. For glassware I go to Reidl – I am quite fussy these days about my glasses. Zara Home has a fab selection of tumblers and less traditional glassware too.
I have tried many bedlinen brands over the years but The White Company is the one I come back to time and again – it’s great quality. Jonathan Adler is my go-to for soft furnishings – I’m collect his cushions and ceramics.
I like to source lighting from a range of places, but if I could only recommend one, it would be Pooky – it has a wonderful selection of great prices. I also love the chargeable lamps; we have them in our bathrooms, dining table, garden, everywhere.
Next on my shopping list is some seeds and plants for the garden. I get so much joy from being outside and in nature. I love ODD Limited – I am coveting one of their swing chairs and have been saving up for a year. It reminds me so much of my childhood in the 80s.
