Interiors Little Black Book: Marloe Morgan
If I could only buy homewares from one place it would be The Conran Shop. It has an incredible selection of pieces. High on my wish list is the Flag Halyard Lounge Chair in ‘Olive’. It’s such an iconic piece. I also have a glass water jug in my shopping cart right now.
The most interesting interiors shop is the Tamsin Johnson showroom in Paddington, Sydney – it is breath taking. Tamsin is an iconic Australian interior designer with an impeccable eye. The showroom has a selection of antique furniture, lighting and objects from across the world, and it’s my go-to place to find fresh inspiration. I haven’t bought anything yet, but I love going there in search of new creative ideas.
The coolest interiors shop I’ve found on my travels is Gaya Ceramic in Ubud, Bali, which sells handcrafted ceramic tableware and objects. The craftsmanship and design detail is second to none. In 2019 I bought a hand-thrown vase with celadon and ox-blood glaze detail. My husband and business partner James and I also were bowled over by Designers Guild's flagship store in London.
The best homeware store is NET-A-PORTER. Its selection is so accessible, and I love its exclusive collections with brands. We have been lucky enough to design a collection of sea-inspired vases in collaboration with NET-A-PORTER that will launch in August.
The coolest independent interior brands is Sarah Ellison. Where possible, I prefer to support local makers and small brands, and I love what Sarah Ellison and her team produce. Their use of mixed materials is really beautiful, and I’m especially drawn to the rattan details running through their current work. The Pierré Stool would look perfect in our new villa in Bali.
The best destination for independent designers and makers is Instagram. Spending time in London, I found a lot of inspiring independent artists along Portobello Road that I now follow online.
The coolest under-the-radar brand is Soktas, which creates hand-blown lighting in Currumbin, Australia. Its work is truly beautiful, and I find it very inspiring. I’m planning to add the Coral wall sconces to our master bathroom in Bali.
My perfect shopping day would be in Sydney. I would start with coffee and breakfast at Bill’s in Surry Hills – it is my absolute favourite. Then I’d make my way over to the Tamsin Johnson showroom to get my antique fix. I would also stop by MCM HOUSE in Paddington. After lunch, Lucy Folk on William Street has the best resort wear. I also love Camilla And Marc, so I would make time to check out the latest collections there. When I’m in London I always enjoy finding style and design inspiration at the Design Museum.
The best vintage stores in the world are in New York. During our last trip to the US, James and I stumbled across a vintage store and I found the most incredible Valentino houndstooth jacket. Now, it’s a piece in my wardrobe that holds such special memories for me.
My favourite vintage piece is my glassware collection. I love interesting glasses that tell a story and can add detail to a dining setting. I have a small set of four delicate coupe glasses and my friends always mention how lovely they are. I always find fun and interesting glassware at markets in London, especially Hackney Flea Market
The best sustainable brand is Peony Swimwear. The team behind it are such pioneers in the world of sustainable swimwear
The best interiors gift I’ve ever given is a Spencer Shakespeare painting I gave my husband James for our second wedding anniversary. He loves it and I’m sure we will hold onto this piece for years. I also love to gift our Mini Bobby candles to loved ones and friends. The scents are incredible and they burn for ages.
The most recent item I bought for my home is some tableware from Kevala ceramics. I love to mix texture and tones, and I’m very drawn to neutral tableware with interesting design details.
