9 Small Interiors Brands We Love

It’s always fun to discover a new brand – and when it comes to interiors, going small and independent is a guaranteed way to find something your friends don’t already have. Here are the current names to know…

Bettina Ceramica

We can’t help but love the originality of Bettina Ceramica’s collection. Founded by Natalie Sytner, this curated edit of rare and exceptional pieces – both classical and contemporary – celebrates independent artists, makers, and factories from across Italy. Each object is handcrafted in small batches – inspired by her Ligurian mother, Natalie has travelled all over the country, from Sicily to Veneto, in search of the families who have produced these ceramics for generations. Our favourite is the Gigli range, with its wavy handles and reflective glazes.

Wilkinson & Rivera

Launched in 2021 by husband-and-wife duo Grant Wilkinson and Teresa Rivera, this studio specialises in the design and in-house manufacturing of hardwood timber furniture. All designs are made in their East London workshop with slow manufacturing principles in mind, and tend to feature playful curves, hand-turned legs and six-way weaved caning. Looking for a statement piece of furniture? The Windsor and the Silla chairs are destined to be future heirlooms.

Vanderohe Curio

This London-based handblown glassware studio, founded by Olivia Thorpe, started with a small line of colourful, handblown speckled baubles. They were an instant sell-out, prompting Olivia to go on to design an entire collection. It’s her obsession with fashion, art and beautiful craftsmanship that have led to this core collection of meticulously made, colourful glassware, including jewel-like drinkware, show-stopping centrepieces and gleaming objets, all in a rainbow of speckled and dégradé colours, each of which is free-blown without using moulds. We love the speckled tumblers.

Studio Gabrielle

Named after French fashion icon Coco Chanel – whose real name was Gabrielle – this studio is led by award-winning designer Louise Parker, who has a wealth of experience in the worlds of design and architecture. This year she’s extended the business to launch a signature furniture range, including the La Gràce headboard, which we love in statement red-and-white stripes. There’s plenty of interiors inspo available on the website, too, where you can get the inside track on recent projects.

In The Roundhouse

We love informal mix-and-match tableware and Sydney-based homeware brand In The Roundhouse has an array of quirky, fun designs available in bright, clean colours. From seafood themes to wavy styles, you can browse and buy a small selection from the full range in the UK at Liberty – we’re just hoping there’s more to come in the months ahead.

Cinny

Frustrated by the lack of cool, stylised florals when it came time to renovate a country property, designer Cinny decided to launch her own fabric and wallpaper collection this year. Featuring offset bold florals, small pretty prints against bold stripes and geometrics working with contemporary and current colourways, the concept behind the collection is simple – that all the designs can work together within the same scheme. We have our eye on the incredibly voluptuous striped eiderdown.

Compton Marbling

Marbled homeware has been around for some time, but the lamps from Compton Marbling bring this traditional technique bang up to date. Limited-edition ranges are designed in a Wiltshire studio by Alex Lewis and Clementine Stone – buy them exclusively online or from the studio shop. There are also marbling courses available if you want to learn the technique yourself, as well as smaller accessories such as notebooks and writing papers.

Nichola Taylorson Textiles

Based in London, Nichola Taylorson works closely with a group of artisans in Jaipur to create a range of high-end fabrics. Each small batch of textiles is handprinted on linen and some are hand embroidered, which makes them unique. Our favourite, the Anushka collection, is inspired by traditional Indian batik prints, and has an intricate dotted pattern that’s bound to work in a number of interior styles. You can purchase the fabric by the metre or buy ready-made cushions using one of her designs.

Casa Celva

After travelling around Latin America and the Mediterranean in her 20s, Catherine Maguire returned to the UK but struggled to find colourful and sustainably-made homeware similar to what she’d seen abroad. She launched Casa Celva to capture that same spirit, and the range now includes glassware, textiles and ceramics – but for us, the handblown Murano tumblers are the highlight.
