Look Around This Re-Designed City Apartment
The Property
This mansion block apartment in Notting Hill is a Victorian property with three bedrooms. It is owned by a family who are based overseas and live there part-time – two sisters did the renovation as a surprise for their parents and the team worked closely with both of them (one, Cass, is an interior designer).
The Brief
The ‘surprise’ element of the brief was a bit unusual but they trusted us to do this for them. We were asked to work with a neutral colour palette throughout, so we implemented that through the materials and finishes; for example, we used a raw oak for the bespoke dining table and TV unit, with the addition of colour in the wallpaper. To add interest, we used bold marble in the bathrooms and kitchen.
LET'S TAKE THE TOUR
The Kitchen
The arch was created as a feature – previously the space had low and unattractive doors which we decided to open up. This echoes the design in the living room where the second archway is with a set of doors. The polished plaster on the walls and ceiling was chosen to give texture to the room, and the marble for the worktop and backsplash add a bold touch among all the neutral colour.

Living Room
Here, we used a bespoke raw oak TV unit, which we made the focal point of the room and which also houses books and art. Soft furnishings include a convivial seating arrangement for family gatherings. Small injections of pattern on the cushions and rug tie the scheme together, adding interest to an otherwise neutral, restful space.

Dining Room
Bespoke arched doors lead into the dining room, where there’s a mix of textures and materials – raw oak, velvet, alabaster pendant. The statement piece is a bespoke dining table and banquette seating designed by us.

Main Bedroom & En-Suite
Bedroom:
We wanted to keep this room very calm by using an off-white on the walls, ceiling and all the woodwork. Large windows let in a beautiful amount of natural light, but the pendant light is the statement piece in this room.

En-Suite:
The en-suite was dated and dark, poorly lit and in need of a total overhaul. We wanted to add texture using polished plaster on the walls and ceiling, as well as panelling on the walls. The Verde marble contrasts beautifully with the neutral tones of the walls and ceiling here, and the archway design is continued.

Dressing Room
Here we used the full ceiling height for the wardrobes with a cornice running right the way around it. The joinery and ladder were designed and built by us, with the addition of a brass rail for the ladder to connect to.
Beata Heuman handles were used throughout.

Larger Guest Bedroom
Pattern is celebrated here, with wallpaper chosen as the main feature, matching the curtain and cushion fabric for maximum impact. The bespoke wardrobe was designed to not be too angular in this room – we adapted it to a smooth curve. The ceiling height throughout is about three metres, so we used the maximum height possible for the wardrobe and made a bespoke ladder to reach the top cupboards.

Smaller Guest Bedroom
In this bedroom, the client wanted to match the wallpaper and the blinds for maximum impact, despite the small space. It includes some bespoke Blockhouse Build cabinetry and shelving to maximise storage.
