Kitchen & Dining Area
This is a large open-plan space where I wanted to create a laid-back beach-house feel, giving a nod to our seaside location (we live in a Scottish coastal village). I used Farrow & Ball's Stirabout on the walls – an oatmeal shade with an underlying grey – and denim-blue Selvedge on the woodwork to add some playfulness. Limestone flooring, a mix of jute rugs, rattan seating and rustic wood, plus a selection of antique Hungarian decorative plates to add a pop of red give the space plenty of texture and interest.
Master Bedroom En-Suite
I used Molly Mahon's Marigold wallpaper – a happy graphic ode to the marigold, which is a symbol of passion and creativity in south Asia. I've always adored pink and green in combination, and this wallpaper is so cheerful. Paired with Farrow & Ball's romantic and dusky muted Sulking Room Pink on tongue-and-groove panelling. I added a terracotta parquet floor from Ca' Pietra to create a more lived-in, characterful look. I love the mix of texture and pattern. For the shower, I used traditional zellige tiles handmade by craftsmen in Tangier who use raw, unrefined, light-coloured clay sourced from the Atlas Mountains. The glaze makes them glisten and they are my favourite feature of the bathroom.
Guest Bedroom
I wanted this room to provide a calming backdrop to mix with colour, pattern and art, so I painted it in Annie Sloane's Canvas – the name reflects the versatility of the colour, which makes a fabulous backdrop for other colours. The headboard is Soane’s Osmunda Frond – Azure in Ivory Linen, inspired by a discovery in the leaves of an ancient French pattern book.
Hallway
I used Farrow & Ball's archive colour Print Room Yellow. With beautiful, soft ochre pigments it creates a gentle golden glow and never feels too intense. I love how happy and sunny it feels, yet still timeless and understated – the perfect backdrop for my art collection. Ca’ Pietra's Farley Limestone parquet is taken right through the downstairs open-plan area to create a wonderful sense of space.
Utility Room
I really wanted to create a sense of the outdoors. I used Sanderson's Hedera wallpaper up and over the ceiling, creating a trail of twisting ivy leaves climbing upwards to envelop the room. I paired it with Edward Bulmer's Persian on the cabinetry – it’s a warming, bold hue that’s eye catching but not overpowering. A functional space can still bring joy, and this cheerful room helps with the laundry! I used seasoned limestone parquet on the floor from Ca' Pietra. The tones might be soft and muted, but the stone is hard as nails. Its natural riven face is seasoned to appear like a time-worn country-house floor. A sweet little skirt to cover the white goods, in Tori Murphy’s Woodhouse Check, gives the lovely French country kitchen style I so admire.
Playroom
This is my favourite room and where we spend most of our time – my children Willow and Kit adore it. I used Molly Mahon's Strawberry wallpaper, which oozes nostalgia and British charm – the beautiful four-block print has been transferred perfectly into a dreamy textured wallpaper. I’ve paired it with Edward Bulmer’s Invisible Green, an incredible grass green that’s reminiscent of childhood days spent on sunny lawns. I used Alternative Flooring’s Bubbleweave in this room and layered with my favourite rug from Bombay Sprout.
