An Interior Designer Talks Style Inspiration, Wish List Items & Her Clever New Launch

Interior designer Rebecca Constable is known for creating homes that are timeless, inviting and that also meet the challenges of daily life. Her newest launch offers a range of ready-to-go schemes that include everything you need to pull a room together – from key design principles to suggestions for paint colours, furniture, accessories and more. Here, she tells us more about where she finds inspiration, how she approaches a space and everything that’s on her wish list right now.

The Background

I started out as a management consultant in financial services and then moved into project management for John Lewis. After having children, I knew I wanted to do something more flexible that would help me work on my own terms, so I slowly started to move into interior design. I started with my own home and then did some projects for friends and family – and it grew from there. Project management is a huge part of interior design so there’s a lot of crossover.

The Family Home

Our home is very much a lived-in, family house, filled with colour, pattern and lots of art. Each room is quite distinct – I love using different fabrics to achieve this. I’m also a huge fan of using natural materials in a home, so we have oak floorboards, marble tiles, quartzite counters. We’re not precious about our home and I like that natural materials show signs of wear and tear. My favourite room is mine and my husband's bathroom. It feels like such a calm and luxurious space to unwind in at the end of each day.

The Design Philosophy

I’ve always been drawn to colour and pattern and that continues to show in my design style. I love a layered look when it comes to materials and textures. I have an eclectic mix of pieces in my own home – some antiques, some more modern and everything else in between. My Swiss grandma has been a huge influence on me. Her home was full of beautiful antiques, playful oil paintings which she’d painted herself and furniture she’d also decorated and embroidered. We have several of her oil paintings hanging in our home today.

The Current Project

Earlier this year we launched Room by Room Interiors, a library of off-the-shelf design schemes, which aims to make interior design more accessible and affordable. Not everyone has the time or inclination to spend hours trawling the internet trying to find the right pieces, so we’ve done it all for you. It’s a brilliant alternative if you want a helping hand with designing your home but don’t want to take on the cost of hiring someone.

These Are The 10 Things On Rebecca’s Wish List

Sofa beds are notoriously difficult to get right but this one by The House Upstairs hits the mark. It’s the perfect solution for a multifunctional space.

These scalloped wall lights would also work well in a hallway. They almost look like they’re part of the architecture.

I love the curves and shape of this bedside cabinet. The limed oak allows just enough of the grain to peep through. Anything by Alfred Newall will be something to keep for life.

I love this pouffe from Six The Residence. It’s perfect for a bedroom or dressing room.

I love the Lucy Williams rug collection for Pelican House, but this one is my favourite. Brown and blue is a colour combination I will never tire of.

This mirror has been on my wish list for as long as I can remember. Hang it over a mantelpiece or in a hallway or anywhere really. I challenge you to find a space it won’t work in.

These side tables from The White Company are so useful – perfect for when you’re short on space but need somewhere to pop a drink. Every home should have a couple of them.

A small tray is so useful for tidying up a desk or bedside table. It’s the little details that make a room feel considered.

I love these handles from Bias Editions. They’re fun, luxe and cool all at the same time. Use them in your bedroom or a dressing room.

My favourite diffuser from Bamford isn’t just fresh and luxurious – the willow reeds also make it a beautiful piece to have out. It’s a great way to welcome you home in a hallway.
