What A Top Fashion Buyer Is Loving This Season
CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MATCHESFASHION.COM
What’s your number one pick from the site this season?
I love this denim tunic dress from Valentino; it’s such a versatile piece. I also love the broderie-anglaise dress from Vita Kin.
What have been some of the best-selling pieces so far this season?
Our customers are really loving elevated vacation pieces, from the Valentino denim tunic to Gucci kaftans (the embroidered floral kaftan is a real highlight). The crochet rainbow dress from Gabriela Hearst has also been popular, along with Erdem’s vacation Mustique dress, which is now sold out. Denim from Loewe and romantic pieces from Zimmermann also continue to sell well.
What always sells out the minute it hits the site?
Fashion-led denim has been a real hit this season, from the likes of Valentino, Wales Bonner, Ganni and the exclusive capsule from Batsheva. Interesting and joyful knitwear continues to be popular, too, with rainbow styles from The Elder Statesman and the smiley face embroidered sweaters from Joos Tricot also selling out. Everyone loves the luxurious knitwear and cashmere from Raey, The Row, Jil Sander and Gabriela Hearst, too.
After spending more time inside their homes we have also seen our customers look to colourful homeware to uplift their spaces, we exclusively launched Marni Market in June and the pieces sold out super quickly. We’ve also had a great reaction to Gergei Erdei, Reflections Copenhagen glassware, Colville’s bold rugs, tabletop pieces from La DoubleJ and Summerill & Bishop’s rainbow table linen.
Which designer collection are you loving most for summer and why?
Gucci and Valentino for uplifting colour, Loewe for clever use of colour and denim, and Bottega Veneta for innovative designs.
What’s your favourite piece you’ve bought in recent months?
Reflections Copenhagen’s exclusive handmade crystal glasses are amazing, – I love the sculptural colourful stems.
Jil Sander’s pleated taffeta midi dress is so beautiful and versatile; it works for so many occasions.
Tina Vaia exclusive marbled serving bowl is perfect for summer tabletops when entertaining at home.
There are also so many beautiful pieces by new vacation brand Les Vacances – all of which are perfect for a summer by the beach or in the city.
What’s your favourite trend for SS21?
There’s definitely a minimalism emanating from brands like Jil Sander, Khaite, Chloe and Totême – and it’s been great to see some new additions being made to these minimal, modern collections, like incredible knitwear. Conversely, there’s also a lot of joyful fashion and uplifting colour throughout the new collections – especially from brands such as Lisa Folawiyo, Conner Ives, The Elder Statesman, Gabriela Hearst and Jacquemus
Let’s talk specifics – any dresses you really love?
Easy day dresses that still feel chic are definitely high on the agenda, a few favourites being the embroidered linen dress from Vita Kin, Molly Goddard’s poplin dress and the relaxed t-shirt dress from The Frankie Shop. I’m also really looking forward to dressing up again and have Emilia Wickstead’s Hailey floral dress and Cecilie Bahnsen’s Beth dress in my wishlist.
What bag trend should everyone buy into?
Amazing bucket bags from new brand to MATCHESFASHION, NEOUS, joyful totes from LastFrame and basket bags perfect for vacations and staycations from Dragon Diffusion. Plus, JW Anderson and Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza.
And footwear?
For iconic, statement heels, opt for Amina Muaddi and Ferragamo’s creations. For a more casual option, I love the chain leather slides from JW Anderson and Margiela’s collaboration with Reebok.
Which brand have you been most excited to bring on board recently?
Kika Vargas, Lisa Folawiyo, Sacai, Lastframe and our exclusive swimwear capsule from Pucci. We’ve also launched amazing new homeware from Tina Vaia, Bernadette and Yinka Ilori.
There are a few new brands coming soon that we’re excited to launch, including Tom Ford, Marfa Stance and Nensi Dojaka. We’ve also recently launched responsible label Cawley Studio and vacation brand Alemais.
What jewellery brands are you coveting?
Gold chains from Lauren Rubinski, Alighieri, By Alona and Fernando Jorge, along with more colourful pieces from Shay, Chopova Lowena and Irene Neuwirth.
What pieces do you go back to every spring/summer?
Versatile and easy dresses that work for all occasions, mainly by Vita Kin and Thierry Colson. Voluminous tops are also a great summer option, as they can be paired with chic shorts and slim jeans. Finally, vacation wear from brands like Eres and Hunza G.
What key pieces do you always invest in?
Fine jewellery is something you can cherish forever and then pass down to your loved ones. A few personal favourites include brands like Shay, Mateo and Lauren Rubinski. Good white shirts are also a great investment – Halpern, Alemais and palmer//harding are some of my go-tos. This summer, I also plan to invest in some new sandals in black, tan and navy – plus, a pair of flatforms, which are such a great update to any summer outfit. Easy-to-wear pieces such as linen tops and cotton dresses are also ideal for the warmer months – check out brands such as The Row, Jil Sander, Three Graces and Matteau. Finally, gorgeous summer home updates for entertaining from Themis Z, Taller Marmo, Marta Ferri and Dinosaur Designs are all goodinvestments and pieces you’re bound to use year after year.
