These Are The Top 6 Wedding Trends Of 2019
The Booze
Legendary wedding planner and ‘Party Architect’ Johnny Roxburgh predicts that gin-loving Brits will soon be turning their attention to rum and whisky, with a new breed of artisan distilleries on the rise. Johnny says rum is best in the summer and envisages rum carts being a big fixture on the 2019 wedding scene.
The Colours
Tim Hanbury, party planner to the likes of Diana Ross, Mick Jagger and the Royal family, and founder of Apollo Event Consultants predicts flowers will be wild and romantic featuring lots of garden flowers such as roses, stocks, sweet peas and peonies for an early summer wedding. Favoured hues will be pastels and nude shades – blush pinks, coral and silver tones, but we’ll also see the return of bolder colours as well. Anna McGregor of LAMP Productions creates show-stopping events for some of the world’s most esteemed and demanding clients, she also foresees a bigger, more daring use of colour: “Couples will be bold and brave using colour […] Neon is a great way to do this - use it in printing, as a detail in your invitations and menu cards, add neon signs behind your bar – it’s fun and kind of sexy.” McGregor also adds that the ‘pattern on pattern’ trend for 2019 is one of her favourites, “Channel your inner Annabel’s and you’re there.”
The Ethos
“Follow the lead of the Royals and let Eugenie inspire you; your wedding should reflect who you are” says McGregor. If you recycle, if you eat locally, if you consider the impact you have on the environment then these things should be a part of the way that you create your wedding. Couples this year will choose local suppliers and British designers, they will dress their tables with seasonal British-grown flowers and foliage reducing the carbon footprint of their celebration.
The Tables
Long banqueting tables will feature low floral centrepieces so that guests can socialise easily with scented candles dotted around, says Hanbury. Forget the small, circular tables of yore – 2019 is all about social, informal wedding dining.
The Food
“Sit down dinners will be shorter, leaving more time for fun and revelry,” says Hanbury. “Grazing tables with opulent displays of sharing foods will be big in 2019. Instantly eye-catching and playing a visual part of your overall wedding design, guests can help themselves, and they’re an interesting alternative to the traditional canape reception.” Roxburgh agrees: “Couples will do away with stuffy canapes and cut out starters to make way for creative food presentation and more time to mingle and party.” Plus, vegan weddings are on the rise – from creative canapés and meat-free mains to dairy-free desserts, there’s never been a better time to offer inspiring plant-based options at your wedding breakfast.
The Extra Guests
“Anything goes in 2019,” says Sarah Kellum from Millbridge Court, who has noticed an increase in couples bringing animals to their wedding. “We had a couple bring their pet alpacas to their wedding last year which made for incredible photos, and we anticipate much more of the same this year,” she said. Whether it’s the family dog or something more exotic, animals are being increasingly more involved in their owner’s big day.
