The Hot Product: Khaite Maddy Top

Thanks to that viral 'bra-digan' you're probably already familiar with New York label Khaite. Last year, their 'Maddy' top was the must-have product and, 12 months on, the trend has finally filtered down to the high street to include myriad affordable versions. With a sweetheart neckline and ribbed fabric, it's become a firm influencer favourite – here's everything you need to know...

The Brand

Founded in 2016, New York-based Khaite (pronounced ‘Kate’) has swiftly become one of the fashion industry’s most coveted names. The brand owes its success partly to actor Katie Holmes, who was pictured in 2019 hailing a cab while wearing Khaite’s matching knit bra and cardigan (it subsequently went viral). From knitwear to footwear, classic designs with a contemporary twist are what Khaite does so well.

The Design

With a universally flattering sweetheart neckline and long sleeves, the Maddy top is simple enough to qualify as a wardrobe basic, yet interesting enough to wear as a standalone, statement piece. In quintessentially Khaite fashion, the top’s unique hemline (which looks as though it was intended to be a bodysuit at some point in the design process), is what sets it apart from other Iterations on the market.

The Trend

Hardly surprising, numerous high street brands have been quick to produce their own versions of the Maddy top to compete with Khaite’s £920 price tag. From Mango to Pixie Market, a deep neckline with sleeves sitting precariously on the shoulders are the most-replicated details, striking the perfect balance between simple and sexy.

The Fans

Influencers like Camille Charriere, LouLou De Saison and Viktoria Rader have all sported the Maddy top, with Camille showing off its latest iteration in forest green. Should you need further styling inspo, look to the likes of Div Ravindran, Georgia Meramo and Lissy Graham – all of which demonstrate how to nail the look using a budget-friendly version.

The Look

Thanks to its minimalistic design, the Maddy top can be worn with almost anything, from skirts to jeans. Our advice, however, is to pair it with straight leather trousers, boots and layered gold jewellery.
