THE BOOK: Burning Questions by Margaret Atwood
From cultural icon Margaret Atwood comes this brilliant collection of essays which seek answers to ‘burning questions’ such as: Why do people everywhere, in all cultures, tell stories? How much of yourself can you give away without evaporating? And what do zombies have to do with authoritarianism? In over 50 pieces, Atwood covers subjects ranging from debt to tech, the climate crisis to freedom – if you ask us, there’s almost no better questioner of the many mysteries of the human universe than her.

THE MUSE: Zoë Kravitz
Ahead of her appearance as Catwoman in the new film The Batman (set to release on 4th March) 31-year-old Zoë Kravitz has stepped out in several standout looks. Whether it was sheer Saint Laurent separates or a black dress and structured capelet by The Row, she’s become the very embodiment of her upcoming role. Our favourite look so far has to be the black Saint Laurent column dress she wore to the London screening – the scalloped, halter-neck and peephole cut-outs cleverly mirrored the shape of her Catwoman mask. Feminine, subtle and seductive, Kravitz kept her accessories to a minimum with a pair of black stud and pearl drop earrings, and black sandals.
THE HOTEL: The Alan
The Alan is a new design-led hotel, bar and restaurant in Manchester with a difference. The six-storey venue champions local makers and uses discarded materials: for example, the striking lobby floor is made from a collage of fragmented marble pieces. While the bedrooms aim to be places of calm, the restaurant and bar spaces inject the fun and energy into the property. Non-guests are welcome from morning until late at night for breakfast, coffee, dinner.

THE SHOW: Khaite AW22
Since the brand’s launch in 2016, Khaite’s contemporary take on essentials – think cashmere, leather and denim – has spawned several sold-out, wait-listed and cult fashion hits. By the looks of the AW22 show, there are more on the way. With models in New York walking down the runway to Nirvana’s ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night?’, leather jackets were the standout pieces – from oversized silhouettes to shearling lapels, we already know what we have our eye on.
