Everything You Need To Know About The Met Gala 2022

The Met Gala is fashion’s big night out, and despite a Covid-induced haitas in 2020 and a postponed date in September 2021, this year the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s gala returned in all its glory. Celebrating In America: An Anthology of Fashion, the theme explores the origins of American fashion, while the ‘Gilded Glamour, White Tie’ dress code provided a healthy serving of glamorous fashion. From an all-white Hailey Bieber look to Kiki Layne in pink ruffles, here are some of the most memorable looks…

Hailey Bieber

Wearing: Saint Laurent

Why We Love It: Proving just how impactful a simple silhouette can be, we love the minimalist drama of this white backless gown. The feathers nod to Old Hollywood glamour, while the simple make-up and sleek top knot keep everything fresh and modern.

Kendall Jenner

Wearing: Prada

Why We Love It: Kendall’s custom black silk-satin skirt was appropriately dramatic, with the ruched, ruffled details acting as a perfect contrast against her barley-there embroidered tulle top. Although her hair was free flowing, the bleached brows gave the entire look a more directional feel.

Kate Moss

Wearing: Burberry

Why We Love It: This look just proves Kate’s superiority when it comes to red carpet dressing. The tuxedo dress designed by Burberry’s creative director Riccardo Tisci was understated yet glamorous, demure yet sexy, and classically feminine but with a contemporary edge. Windswept hair, a smattering of diamonds and a swipe of red lipstick acted as the perfect finishing touches.

Alexa Chung

Wearing: Christian Siriano

Why We Love It: A masterclass in minimalism and drapery, Alexa Chung’s cream dress was an ode to American glamour. Draping softly over her shoulders and nipped in neatly at the waist, it was also a clever play on proportions. With hair that was characteristically undone, she wore shoes by brand-of-the-moment Mach & Mach.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Wearing: Gucci

Why We Love It: We love this for its sheer bravery. The actress and Gucci ambassador paired the chain bra with a fringed miniskirt, which had a pink pleated chiffon layer woven into it. Dramatic and completely unexpected, it was also reflective of the Gilded Age dress code. Her hair was elegantly waved and the accessories were kept to a minimum.

Emma Chamberlain

Wearing: Louis Vuitton

Why We Love it: Another look for Louis Vuitton’s muse Emma to add to her repertoire, this is a simple twist on the evening’s theme, with the sleeve detailing and corset-like bodice. The YouTube star also accessorised with Cartier jewels and incorporated a crown-like headband – a subtle and stylish nod to the regency era.

Anna Wintour

Wearing: Chanel

Why We Love It: The hostess with the most-ess – from the crown to the feathers and sequin detailing, other attendees should take note. Her feather trimmed cape creates a flowing silhouette to pair with the flattering slim fit gown underneath. The ensemble, although extra, makes just the right statement.

Joan Smalls

Wearing: Tom Ford

Why We Love it: A vision of sheer mesh and wrap detailing, this is an artistic and intricate design, even if it wasn’t exactly on theme. Joan smoulders in the sleek look, which also shapes her body perfectly. The gloves help add back a notion of regency glam.

Laura Harrier

Wearing: Victor Glemaud

Why We Love It: From the lace-detailed metallic fabric to the exaggerated skirt and corset, Laura more than understood the assignment. This interpretation had multiple gothic influences, all the way down to the tonal three-tiered pearl necklace, black velvet gloves and regal hairstyle.

Kiki Layne

Wearing: Prabal Gurung

Why We Love It: Kiki’s pink gown provides a refreshing, feminine pop of colour among a sea of monochrome and metallics. Adorned with flowers along the top of the bodice and dropping into a full skirt, she co-ordinated the look with white flower-trimmed opera gloves and dotted pink eyeshadow. Definitely one of the standout looks of the evening.

Addison Rae

Wearing: Michael Kors

Why We Love It: Although somewhat safe, this proves Addison is preparing to step out of her comfort zone. Her make-up nodded to old Hollywood, but it was still the dress that took centre stage.

Eiza Gonzalez

Wearing: Michael Kors

Why We Love It: This modern flapper look didn’t disappoint – the sculpted diamond encrusted white gown drapes to hit the floor, while the added feather detailing takes this look to the next level. Paired with a striking neckpiece and full-on make-up, Eiza is definitely a favourite this year.
