The New Sustainable Fashion Lines To Know
CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NET-A-PORTER
Their new platform, NET SUSTAIN, is a curated, editor-approved selection of brands and products that meet their sustainability criteria – that means everything from being locally sourced, produced with minimal waste and adhering to fair trade principles. With designers like Stella McCartney and Veja in the mix, it’s proof you don’t need to compromise on style to shop more ethically, and thanks to this new launch, it’s never been easier to do so.
Every item selected for the edit meets at least one of the following criteria. Designer fashion for the conscious consumer? Yes please…
Locally Made
For a brand to qualify for this category, at least 50% of their products have to be manufactured or made in the brand’s country of origin. Dainty jewellery designer Catbird and relaxed essentials label Bassike are just some of the names with proven investment in their local communities.
Considered Material
We’re all becoming increasingly aware of the provenance of our wardrobe, and this category guarantees brands’ materials and ingredients are sourced in a way that isn’t harmful to communities, animals or the environment. Cult Scandi brand Stine Goya and cool Brit label Mother of Pearl both qualify.
Considered Process
NET-A-PORTER says ‘this attribute is about fashion that supports the health of environment, worker and wearer’ – that means no nasty working environments or damaging production processes.
Reducing Waste
From reduced packaging to innovative upcycled materials, more and more brands are considering the amount of waste produced in clothing production. Swimwear labels in particular, including Peony and Mara Hoffman, are paving the way for reduced waste fashion.
