The New Launch: Asket Women’s
Asket made its name as an elevated basics label for men. Now it’s moved into womenswear with a capsule collection comprising a t-shirt, oxford shirt and pair of jeans. All are responsibly made, fully traceable and the numbers are impressive: 27 different fabrics were tried and tested; there were 10 rounds of prototypes to get things just right; and the jeans come in 54 sizes.

The Hero Brand: Toit Volant
If you like the vintage-inspired prairie dresses of Horror Vacui, O Pioneers and Batsheva, you’ll love LA-based Toit Volant. The label prides itself on transparency and fair treatment of staff at its small factory. It doesn’t claim to be entirely sustainable (as no fashion brand can truly be), but it does aim to create as little fabric waste as possible, and to focus on designs that can transcend seasons. Toit Volant has a site of its own, but if you’re looking to avoid import charges, there’s a selection available to pre-order on UK site Studio B.

The Resale Service: Harvey Nichols X Reflaunt
Department store Harvey Nichols is launching a luxury resale service in partnership with Reflaunt. Claiming to be the largest second-hand community in the world, Reflaunt encourages fashion lovers to extend the life of their pieces through resale. Now, Harvey Nichols shoppers have the opportunity to sell on their unwanted pieces in exchange for store vouchers or a direct bank transfer of up to 80% of the item’s original value. If you’re looking to have a sustainable clear-out, take advantage of Reflaunt’s concierge collection service or simply drop pieces into Harvey Nichols yourself.
The Nightwear Collab: Stripe & Stare X LoveShackFancy
Sustainable nightwear brand Stripe & Stare has released its second collection in collaboration with LoveShackFancy. Results are characteristically feminine – think ditsy floral sweats, PJs and frilly underwear. In all of its designs, Stripe & Stare uses Tencel modal, which is made using wood pulp from sustainable tree farms. Plus, all knickers are currently 95% biodegradable, with the aim to be up to 100% by the end of 2021.

The Competition: RCGD
Red Carpet Green Dress is an organisation committed to cleaning up the fashion industry. It has just launched its 2021 Global Design Contest in partnership with Tencel and CLO. Open to new or established designers with a passion for sustainability, the competition’s winner will see their design created as a one-of-a-kind piece from Tencel fibres (which derive from botanics and are completely biodegradable) and worn by a notable figure in the world of fashion to this year’s RCGD event. The deadline for entering closes today, so stay tuned for the winning design.

The Sustainable Undies: Pantee
Created in lockdown by sisters Amanda and Katie McCourt, Pantee offers incredibly comfy, classic bras and pants made from upcycled deadstock t shirts, which would otherwise go to waste. “When we learnt about the number of garments going to waste each year, we just had to do something about it,” says Amanda. “We are proud to have created a collection that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved through upcycling.” Every order is sent out in plastic-free, recyclable packaging. Pantee has also committed to planting one tree for every order.
