The Conscious Edit: April

In The Conscious Edit, we bring you the very best brands, products and initiatives from the world of sustainable fashion. Whether it’s a new label or an eco-friendly venture from brands we love, these are the conscious products, services and launches to know about this month…

The Lingerie Label

The trend for feminine, yet comfortable, underwear shows no sign of subsiding and London based label Crease Studios is one to know. Launched by two London College of Fashion graduates, the brand offers effortlessly ruffled silk lingerie and simple slip dresses, all of which are made to order using sustainably and ethically sourced fabrics. It also offers a repair service for all its customers, in the hope of maximising the longevity of their garments.

The New Brand To Know

Living by the words 'beautiful clothing made to last', slow fashion label CAES was founded in 2019 with the aim to provide customers with a seasonless, timeless wardrobe. The brand recently launched on NET-A-PORTER, with wardrobe staples like sweaters, cotton dresses and smart trousers, all of which have been created using sustainable materials.

The Loungewear

Scandi brand Baum Und Pferdgarten has launched a limited collection of responsible loungewear, all produced using 100% organic cotton. The collection’s variety of bright, mood-boosting colours are fun enough to wear out and, as tested by the SL fashion team, extremely comfortable.

The Leather Alternative

Stella McCartney has long been known for avoiding animal products in her designs, but this year marks the introduction of a new leather alternative. Mylo™️ by Bolt Threads is a vegan, sustainable, animal-free leather alternative made from mycelium, an infinitely renewable underground root system of fungi, and Stella McCartney is the first luxury house in the world to launch garments created using the material. Speaking of the launch, McCartney said: “These exclusive pieces embody our shared commitment with Bolt Threads to innovate a kinder fashion industry – one that sees the birth of beautiful, luxurious materials as opposed to the deaths of our fellow creatures and planet.”

The Fabric Care Tools

Garment maintenance isn’t particularly sexy, but it’s fair to say Steamery Stockholm makes taking care of your clothes as stylish as possible. With a range of planet-friendly laundry detergents, fabric shavers and lint brushes, the brand wants to increase the life of your clothes by keeping them looking as fresh as possible. It doesn’t hurt that the characteristically Scandi design of the products is far chicer than others on the market, either.

The Jewellery

Newly launched ByGlaze is the latest venture from Natalie Glaze – co-founder of sustainable swimwear brand Stay Wild – marking her move into the jewellery world. The capsule collection, which includes delicate pendants and chunky hoops, is all made using recycled silver and plated with responsibly sourced 18k gold.

The Footwear

Spanish footwear brand Alohas is already an influencer-favourite for its designer-inspired shoes, which include a range of chunky sandals and square toe heels, as well as on-trend clogs and timeless boots. The brand’s sustainability stance is its USP – all purchases are on a pre-order basis, to anticipate demand and avoid wasted product, while pieces are all produced locally in Alicante to minimise their carbon footprint.
