Brand To Know: Kika Vargas
The Story
Born in Colombia’s capital Bogotá, Kika Vargas studied fine art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, followed by fashion design at Milan’s Instituto Marangoni. Going on to become a designer at Missoni – a house she credits for sparking her love of colour – Vargas chose to launch her own, eponymous brand in 2011. Describing the venture as a ‘lifelong dream’, Vargas takes most of her inspiration from a childhood spent watching her mother getting dressed up.
The Collection
Voluminous silhouettes are at the heart of Kika Vargas’ designs – think long dresses with puffed sleeves in ditsy, whimsical prints, as well as bright block colours. Not only do the brand’s roomy silhouettes make them comfortable and flattering enough for everyday wear, cutesy details like scalloped edging and asymmetric hemlines also make them statement enough for evening events, too. If dresses aren’t your thing, matching separates are the perfect holiday outfit.
The Price
You can expect to pay upwards of £500 for a dress and around £300 for separates, but seeing as the designs can be worn both casually and more formally, it’s more than possible to maximise the cost per wear.
Where To Shop
With many of the brand’s pieces high on our wish list, it’s fortunate that the brand is stocked across multiple outlets. Having recently launched a generous selection on Matches, the good news is you can now shop these pieces minus import charges. Elsewhere, check out Harrods, as well as e-tailer Shopbop, which includes any tax duties at the checkout.
