Where To Celebrate & Watch Wimbledon

The capital may have caught World Cup fever, but there’s nothing more quintessentially British than watching two weeks of Wimbledon. Kicking off on Monday 2nd July, you don’t need to have nabbed tickets at SW19 to enjoy the fun – here are ten London spots that are celebrating in style…

Flemings Mayfair

Manetta’s Bar at five-star hotel Flemings Mayfair is riffing on the classic Wimbledon combo of champagne and strawberries with its new one-off dessert. Available for the duration of the tournament, guests will begin with a glass of bubbles before tucking into a quintessential Eton mess, served to share.

Eccleston Place by Tart London

Top caterer Tart London (aka Lucy Carr-Ellison and Jemima Jones) will be popping up at Eccleston Yards, showcasing its upcoming venture alongside a large screen showing Wimbledon and Pimm’s and cocktails by The Rum Runner. The pop-up will offer fresh smoothies for breakfast and seasonally topped bruschetta and refreshing gazpachos for lunch. Signature strawberries and cream will, of course, be on the menu for dessert.

Lanes of London

Lanes of London has devised two special Wimbledon desserts, available as part of its all-day menu. ‘The Turf’ is a white chocolate dome filled with a creamy chocolate centre, and topped with pistachio, basil and strawberries, while ‘Strawberries & Cream’ is a cream trifle with champagne jelly and strawberries. The restaurant will also be serving a Wimbledon afternoon tea, using British ingredients and floral flavours: think Earl Grey and raisin scones and blow-torched elderflower, gin and lime marshmallow.

Brigadiers

This summer, newcomer Brigadiers (from the team behind Xu, Bao and Hoppers) will be showing live sport throughout its seven-roomed venue. The sporting events making it to the big screen include the FIFA World Cup, the Grand Prix and, most excitingly, the Wimbledon semi-finals and finals. Groups wanting to make a real occasion of watching the tennis can book into one of the restaurant’s private dining rooms (they all have screens) for a full Indian feast.

Home House

Luxury private members’ club Home House has launched a ‘Men’s Final’ offer for both members and non-members. The package will offer an overnight stay and a set champagne lunch for two in the Garden (burrata with charred nectarine and heirloom tomato panzanella; wild sea bass with salsa verde; and strawberry and clotted cream ice lollies), followed by a live screening of the last day of action at Wimbledon (fingers crossed Murray makes it). Free-flowing Moët & Chandon will be on hand to toast the winner.
